Murphy is recruiting for a Buyer to join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities, as part of the AMP8 programme. Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland.
A day in the life of a Murphy Buyer:
- Focused experienced materials procurement specialist.
- Works as part of a dedicated procurement team to develop framework supply chain to suit the demand.
- Provide market competitive procurement solutions for the operating unit which demonstrate best overall value for money.
- Provide an effective and professional service in the procurement of materials, goods and services.
- Construction stage project procurement for Project Leader.
- Supporting the production and driving of the procurement schedule.
- Supporting the development of work package documents in conjunction with project teams.
- Support the regional supply chain management activities, including structuring the supply chain, carrying out performance and relationship management to drive improved performance/cost benefits.
- Support activities that generate and encourage an efficient, productive and continuously improving supply chain performance.
- Support the group procurement functional goals and objectives within the region.
- Ensure supplier evaluation forms and risk assessments are maintained.
- Support the development of an accredited and structured supply chain that is aligned to the framework demands and overall, Murphy strategy.
- Input to the monitoring of the marketplace to ensure awareness of pricing trends, risks and opportunities.
- Continuously seek out and assess new supply chain members to meet regional project demand.
- Support the monitoring of the supply chain performance, workload and financial status to protect the corporate position.
- Support the development of the supply chain, products and innovations that bring cost and/or buildability benefits.
- Providing a comprehensive procurement service for all projects in the region.
- Deliver a consistent procurement approach across all projects within the region from work winning / pre-construction stage.
- Ensure a robust negotiation process is applied in the engagement process.
- Ensure contract arrangements and package details are comprehensive and protect the business in its dealings with suppliers/subcontractors.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of work practices, processes and procedures within the construction process from pre-construction stage and into construction stage.
- Good product and supplier knowledge within Utilities and Construction sector.
- Good working knowledge of contracts.
- Good knowledge of Safety within procurement practices.
- MS package knowledge (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project).
- Good understanding of strategic procurement practices.
- Good knowledge of sustainability within procurement practices.
