The Star of Kings is one of the best and only traditional pubs in Kings Cross. We are a buzzing, food-led neighbourhood pub serving the best drinks and food with regular events, live music and comedy nights. Currently we’re joined by the Burger wizards Filthy Buns. You’ll find us a short walk behind Kings Cross Station, the one with the big beer garden out front.

We’re after an upbeat Assistant Manager who can run service, lead a small team and help make the pub even better. This is a rare opportunity to make your mark within a respected independent group that values personality, performance and people.

  • Annual team trip abroad
  • 25% staff discount on food and drinks across all 9 of our venues
  • Company pension scheme
  • Workplace where culture comes first, not corporate red tape
  • Work in a proper neighbourhood pub with friendly regulars, lively events and community spirit

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead front-of-house shifts, coaching staff to deliver brilliant service and great guest experiences.
  • Manage bookings, covers and seating for Filthy Buns food service.
  • Help plan and run events: live music, comedy nights and community activities.
  • Train and develop staff, oversee rotas, and support recruitment.
  • Handle stock, help cashing up, basic cost control and supplier liaising.
  • Maintain standards for presentation, cleaning and compliance (H&S, licensing).
  • Tackle guest issues with a calm, solution-focused approach and build rapport with regulars.

Who we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in a late night venue or similar & comfortable with multi-service days (lunch & dinner).
  • Experience running or supporting live events (music/comedy) and working with local performers/promoters.
  • Strong people skills; coaching, motivating and developing small teams.
  • Community-minded, friendly and hands-on; you’re as happy serving burgers as you are running the floor during a gig.
  • Flexible, reliable, and available for weekends/evenings.
  • Think on your feet, solve problems quickly and keep things organised.

What We’re looking for

  • 2 years minimum experience as an Assistant Manager
  • A fun and engaging personality with a serious commitment to hospitality.
