Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards in a laboratory setting, with some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.).

We are seeking a highly motivated Field Service Engineer (FSE) to join our Unity Lab Services team. In this role, you will deliver a range of on-site service activities—including installation, maintenance, repair, and technical support—for Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instruments. The position is primarily based in Cambridge and surrounding areas, with occasional travel across the UK and Ireland.

You will play a key role in ensuring:

  • Exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • High first-time fix rates and reduced mean time to repair.
  • Minimal repeat service calls.
  • Perform field service activities in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and health & safety regulations.
  • Provide technical support for Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instruments (approximately 80% of the role focus).
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service, ensuring a positive customer experience and long-term relationships.
  • Troubleshoot and expedite resolution of technical issues.
  • Promote Thermo Fisher Scientific's products and services by identifying customer needs and logging sales leads (approx. 5%).
  • Plan and coordinate service activities in collaboration with dispatch, team leaders, and management (approx. 5%).
  • Maintain and manage company assets, including tools, test equipment, IT equipment, and company vehicle (approx. 5%).
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation, including service reports and expense submissions (approx. 5%).

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience servicing analytical instrumentation, or equivalent as an application specialist or end user.
  • Knowledge of Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography, or Gas Chromatography is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in standard IT systems and tools.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (Monday-Friday) with occasional overnight stays.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
