The Account Manager (AM) is a key commercial role within the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This role focuses on selling and supporting all CMD products, maintaining effective and long‑lasting customer relationships, developing growth opportunities, and driving exceptional customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize new client opportunities and develop solution implementation and growth strategies.
- Increase share of wallet within existing accounts by identifying under‑penetrated areas, demonstrating CMD’s value proposition, designing appropriate solutions, and closing opportunities.
- Lead and cultivate account relationships to drive expansion and renewals across the full CMD portfolio (analytical instruments, consumables, services).
- Provide product assistance, consultation, and problem‑solving to customers and expedite orders.
- Identify, document and confirm the best technology choice to meet customer needs.
- Provide quotations, negotiate contracts, close orders with end users and purchasing departments, and support all procurement processes.
- Apply data and metrics to develop and report on account development strategies and tactics.
- Adapt to customers’ needs and market trends, working independently to lead relationships.
- Expand current account penetration and share of wallet, growing organically and leveraging cross‑sell motions.
- Lead territory direction and develop sales strategies to meet or exceed quarterly objectives.
- Use Thermo Fisher Scientific’s sales tools to handle accounts, opportunities, pipelines, and forecasts accurately and timely.
- Maintain awareness of competitor and industry activity, introducing new products and services as available.
- Partner with technical, field and lab application specialists to provide technical expertise and lead presentations at trade shows, user meetings and other customer events.
- Exchange account information and sales leads within and across Thermo Fisher Scientific commercial divisions.
- Work collaboratively in a team selling environment, leveraging internal resources to address customer challenges.
- Analyze sales data, market trends, customer behavior and financial metrics to create accurate projections and revenue forecasts.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of validated sales experience in analytical instrument markets, with a track record of achieving targets and driving revenue growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other applied sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong market knowledge and professional network.
- Experience conducting on‑site customer seminars and technical presentations.
- Commercial mindset, motivated by winning new business and pursuing opportunities.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient in English, both written and oral.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience in a matrix environment, demonstrating commercial excellence.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office and CRM.
- Ability to explain and sell technical aspects of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s scientific product portfolio.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations up to 80%, including overnight travel.
