PPD, a world leading laboratory and clinical research company, will be opening a state-of-the-art laboratory in Suzhou New District in March 2020. PPD Laboratories offer the most comprehensive set of laboratory services available in the industry. Our services are designed to accelerate pharmaceutical development for small molecules, biologics and vaccines, allowing our clients to make faster decisions about their compounds, for all phases of pharmaceutical development.

As an Assist/Associate in the Vaccine Sciences department, you will use state-of-the-art technologies and techniques to perform high-quality sample analysis and testing for key pharmaceutical and biotech clients across the industry. Your role serves as an integral piece in helping PPD accomplish our goal of helping bring life-changing therapies to market.

Responsibilities for the assist/associate scientist may include:

  • Performs a variety of routine sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or biological matrices for stability and analytical testing.
  • Trains on routine operation, maintenance and theory of analytical instrumentation, SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicates project status to project leader.
  • Maintains a laboratory notebook and completes all laboratory documentation in clear and accurate language and according to SOP and GLPs.
  • Performs daily work assignments accurately, and in a timely and safe manner.
  • Reviews, interprets, and analyzes data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.

The Assist/Associate Scientist is expected to follow validated or experimental bioanalytical procedures, to perform PCR, functional antibody, neutralization antibody, ELISA assays and support pharmaceutical product development, testing and evaluation in a GLP regulatory lab environment. The Assist/Associate Scientist will work both independently and in a team setting with occasional direct supervision from a group leader. In addition, the Assist/Associate Scientist is responsible for the review and compilation of results, use of reporting software and review of SOPs.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S or Master Degree in lab sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicine, Biotechnology, Immunology, Virology, Bacteriology, Clinical Lab Sciences or related science field.
  • 2+ years working experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Support testing and analysis in the vaccine sciences department (run assays, perform testing and analysis, prepare samples, prepare, maintain and review lab documentation).
  • Manual dexterity (pipetting, operate lab equipment, perform lab techniques).
  • Experience performing assays, bioassays, immunoassays, ELISA, PCR, antigen/antibody testing, functional assays or similar testing, cell culture.
  • Training or experience with microbiological lab techniques a plus (such as sample analysis, bacterial identification, gram staining, streaking, plating, isolation of colonies, bacterial cell culture, mammalian cell culture, cell line maintenance, passaging of cells, sample preparation, molecular techniques or similar relative experience).
  • Understanding of aseptic or sterile technique (such as training or experience with maintaining sterile field, clean bench space, BSL I, BSL II, Fume hood, flow hood, biosafety cabinet or similar).
  • Follow lab safety guidelines, use of lab safety and PPE (gloves, goggles, lab coat etc) and use appropriate aseptic techniques.
  • Communicate effectively and follow detailed written and verbal instruction.
  • Cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone with supervision.
  • Manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook and complete all documentation with clear and accurate language and according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
