Summarized Purpose:

Performs, reviews, and interprets complex, esoteric, and routine laboratory analyses by manualautomated, and / or microscopic means. Performs analysis and evaluates individual and relatedlaboratory data, recognizes patterns or trends that suggest significance of results and determines the level of clinical significance. Integrates analytical results with specific and highly varied clinical trialprotocols and evaluates the credibility, appropriateness and accuracy of test results in order to facilitateentry or exclusion of subjects from research programs. Leads the day-to-day operations of the laboratoryunit. Organizes daily work activities within the laboratory unit to ensure efficient and effective scientificand administrative operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scopeof training including routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, and safetychecks.
  • Ensures that quality control procedures are carried out.
  • Monitorsinstrument problems and works with the supervisor to resolve. Implements newtechnology and instruments for unit according to established protocols.
  • Gathers data for quality improvement activities within the unit and participates incomparison studies of precision, accuracy, and linearity for new or existingassays according to established protocols. Oversees and reviews daily area
  • Quality Control and maintaining QC database. Sets up and validates new assaysas assigned.
  • Recommends new policies and procedures for the unit and modifies existing orauthors new Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Regularly provides instruction for new employees and students in the theory andpractice of laboratory medicine and the interpretation of results.
  • Serves in amentor to team members, providing guidance and reviewing and checking work.
  • Trains and assesses the competency of staff in the unit and issues formalevaluations.
  • Regularly interacts with non-laboratory departments to organize work flow,trouble shoot problems, and find resolution in order to meet client expectations

Education and Experience:

Bachelor\’s degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic qualification
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to5+ years’) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience
