We are looking for an AC Installation Engineer's Mate to join the Projects Team at Thermatic. As a Thermatic AC Installation Engineer’s Mate, you are responsible for assisting qualified AC Installation Engineers in delivering high-quality, compliant installation of air conditioning and ventilation systems across commercial sites. This developmental role supports hands-on delivery, helping maintain project timelines, safety standards, and technical excellence while building future capability within the installation team.
About Thermatic Technical FM: We provide full UK coverage across Hard FM services to large commercial clients. Our mobile engineers are supported by account teams at our Head Office, delivering reactive and planned maintenance, as well as project installations.

Hours & Location of Work:
Salford, Manchester (Head Office). Location: Fully Remote. Travel: Frequent UK-wide travel and regular overnight stays.
Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting AC Engineers in installing split systems, VRV/VRF systems, ductwork, and associated components on commercial projects.
- Preparing and managing tools, materials, and equipment as directed by the engineer.
- Carrying out basic site preparation activities, including lifting, positioning, and securing of units and materials.
- Assisting with cable routing, pipework installation, insulation, and fixing of ducting or brackets.
- Maintaining clean, safe, and organised work areas in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
- Following risk assessments, RAMS, and access permit processes for each job.
- Supporting accurate documentation by noting equipment used, materials, and site conditions.
- Developing familiarity with commissioning processes and assist where directed.
- Using digital systems to support job completion, reporting, or asset tagging.
- Demonstrating a proactive, safety-first approach and eagerness to learn from experienced team members.
- Following all requirements and procedures as laid out, and participating actively in the continuous improvement of the IMS.
The role operates on a nationwide basis and requires regular travel and overnight stays in line with business needs.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems, especially air conditioning and ventilation.
- Awareness of site safety and installation best practices.
- Understanding of basic mechanical and electrical tools and materials.
- Previous experience supporting mechanical or HVAC installations is advantageous but not essential.
- CSCS card or similar health & safety qualification preferred.
- Interest in progressing into a qualified AC Engineer role through further training or apprenticeship.
- Full UK driving licence is beneficial.
Required Skills:
- Practical and hands-on skills with the ability to follow precise instructions.
- Good awareness of health & safety, with willingness to apply RAMS and site protocols.
- Teamwork-oriented, helpful, and able to communicate clearly with colleagues.
- Strong organisational habits and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Physically capable of handling equipment, working at height, and in varying site conditions.
