As the current Barclays Women’s Super League champions, Manchester City Women are setting the standard on and off the pitch. We’re looking for a talented journalist to join our team and help tell the stories behind the success, creating engaging, high-quality content that informs, inspires and connects with supporters across our digital and matchday platforms. Based in Manchester, this is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working and regular matchday, evening and weekend coverage.

Manchester City Women is a team driven by ambition, belief and a desire to keep pushing the game forward. Founded in 1988 and relaunched in 2014, we have grown into a consistent force in the women’s game, competing at the highest level in the UK and Europe. Progress, performance and pride sit at the heart of everything we do. With Mancunian roots and a global outlook, we are shaped by our Fans and driven by a long-term vision, from developing future talent to supporting the communities we call home.

This role sits at the heart of our Women’s storytelling, helping to shape clear, accurate and engaging content that connects fans with the team and the moments that matter. You will help keep our editorial output fresh, relevant and aligned to the standards of a club with a global audience.

Day to day, you will support the Head of Editorial, Content Lead and Managing Editors, covering live matches and producing reports, live blogs, interviews and match galleries when needed. You will also write high-quality copy for web, app, digital magazine and matchday programmes, contribute to milestone and anniversary content, support SEO and website hygiene, and help maintain records and milestones databases.

We are looking for someone who can bring ideas, work collaboratively across the wider content team and move confidently between different briefs, including occasional coverage across the men’s, EDS and U18s sides. The role suits a detail-focused journalist who is comfortable working to tight deadlines, flexible around matchdays, evenings and weekends, and willing to travel internationally when required.

What You’ll Bring

  • Professional journalism qualification or equivalent training, with experience in a news-led editorial environment.
  • Experience writing accurate, engaging copy for digital, matchday or magazine audiences.
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately to tight deadlines, including live coverage and match reporting.
  • Experience using a CMS and applying SEO best practice to online content.
  • Excellent knowledge of Manchester City Women and a good understanding of the wider women’s game and City’s other teams.
  • Ability to build contacts and work collaboratively across editorial, social, video and design teams, with flexibility around matchdays, evenings, weekends and international travel when required.

Why Choose Us

Working at Manchester City Women means being supported to do your best, with the flexibility and encouragement to look after your wellbeing. We are committed to helping our people learn, grow and thrive in a culture built on collaboration, openness and hard work.

As part of our team, you will receive 26 days’ annual leave plus a day off for your birthday, private healthcare and dental cover, and an annual discretionary bonus. You will also have access to a Health Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 GP support, and a company pension and life assurance.

Manchester-based employees also benefit from free on-site parking, complimentary breakfast and lunch, and access to a range of sports and leisure clubs. You can enjoy a range of additional benefits, including cycle to work, Give As You Earn, discounted match tickets, savings in the City Store, a free City+ subscription, stadium tour discounts, and wider retail and lifestyle offers.
