The Priory Learning Trust are looking to recruit a Specialist Teacher Leading the SEND Unit Provision, to work at our St Andrews Church Junior School. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated educator to develop a new SEND Unit Provision.

The successful postholder will lead a team of staff, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning for a small cohort of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This provision is new from September and links through from our unit at the neighbouring Infant School with a designation around supporting children with cognition and learning difficulties.

You will create an inclusive and nurturing environment where all pupils can thrive, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and care for pupils with SEND. The role requires a therapeutic approach to education, incorporating strategies to support pupils' emotional and social development.

You will complete referrals to outside agencies and annual reviews for children in the unit, monitor and assess pupil progress, using data to inform teaching strategies and interventions and ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, applying de-escalation strategies where necessary.

Candidates are welcome to visit St Andrews Junior School and our current SEND Unit at Burnham on Sea Infants.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Successful candidates will be required to provide a disclosure of any unspent convictions and cautions, as well as any spent convictions or cautions that are not ‘protected’ (i.e. filtered) under the Amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 and 2020). All appointments are subject to a comprehensive pre-employment checking process. This includes an Enhanced DBS check (including a Children’s Barred List check), satisfactory references, medical fitness, Right to Work in the UK, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching/management check. In line with KCSIE guidance, we will also conduct online searches on all shortlisted candidates.
