Working Hours: 39 hours per week

The business is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to join the Operations team on a 15-month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave. The Purchasing Manager will take ownership of all purchasing activities, ensuring materials and services are sourced effectively to support production, projects, and wider operational requirements. This is a key role responsible for leading the purchasing function, managing supplier relationships, improving processes, and delivering cost savings while maintaining quality, availability, and supply chain performance. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with the Operations Management Team to understand business requirements, monitor purchasing performance, and ensure suppliers consistently meet expectations around cost, quality, and delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting the purchasing team to achieve departmental objectives
  • Managing supplier relationships, performance reviews, and escalations
  • Driving cost control initiatives and supporting margin improvement
  • Maintaining accurate purchasing processes, systems, stock levels, and lead times
  • Improving stock management, reducing overstock and slow-moving inventory
  • Maintaining purchasing procedures and supporting quality management standards
  • Managing supply chain risks and reporting key performance indicators
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the purchasing function

Skills & Experience:

The ideal Purchasing Manager will have:

  • Proven experience within purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management
  • Experience leading or developing a purchasing team
  • Strong supplier management and negotiation skills
  • Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment
  • Commercial awareness with a focus on cost savings and process improvement
  • Ability to analyse data, manage KPIs, and drive operational improvements
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
