We are recruiting for a growing, award-winning and innovative manufacturer of mechanical products in their search for a new Mechanical Design Engineer.
Job Description:
As a mechanical design engineer, you will be part of a team of engineers responsible for the design, development, testing and introduction of new products. You will design components and systems using SolidWorks and other design tools in a range of materials and considering a wide range of manufacturing processes from aluminium casting to plastic injection moulding.
Responsibilities include:
- Solve complex engineering problems using mechanical engineering principles including the definition of materials.
- Use 3D and 2D CAD to generate models and drawings of components and assemblies.
- Use FEA to analyse design performance.
- Create and maintain bills of materials.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
- Create specifications that can be used in the procurement of bought out components.
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure product feasibility.
- Building and testing of prototypes and engineering samples.
- Workshop engineering – Hands-on development.
Skills & Experience:
- Degree in mechanical engineering or experience working in a similar role.
- 3D and 2D CAD software competency (SolidWorks or similar).
- Experience with a PDM system (SolidWorks, Teamcenter or similar).
- Understanding and application of GD&T.
- Experience of cradle to grave design to include product design and development.
