Themis Recruit are seeking a Healthcare Advisory Lawyer (Senior Solicitor 3+ PQE or Associate 5+ PQE) to join their London team. The role involves handling a variety of matters, including inquests, mental health law, mental capacity/Court of Protection issues, and general clinical care advisory queries. You will work on high-profile cases primarily for the NHS, as well as private health providers and Medical Defence Organisations. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage complex cases are essential, and advocacy experience is a plus.

The Team supports NHS teaching hospitals, mental health trusts, third-sector organisations, and NHS commissioners. Led by two partners, the team includes associates, solicitors, a trainee, and a paralegal. This role provides opportunities to develop advocacy skills and deepen expertise in inquests, mental capacity, and mental health law, with exposure to related areas like clinical negligence and child law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on healthcare advisory matters
  • Manage inquest cases, including advocacy at PIR and inquest hearings
  • Handle Court of Protection matters and urgent treatment cases
  • Advise on mental capacity, mental health, information governance, and liability issues
  • Contribute to business development, including client training sessions

Requirements

  • Experience in healthcare advisory law (inquests, mental capacity, Court of Protection, mental health)
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advocacy experience in inquests is desirable
  • Familiarity with NHS Resolution procedures is an advantage
  • Strong client relationship and organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
