Overview
Thema is a first-ticket cornerstone investor reinventing the role of an LP. We act as a quasi-venture partner, embedding institutional rigour alongside operational and regulatory expertise to support fund managers in building long-term fund management businesses.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Part-Time Financial Controller to manage and oversee the financial operations of our growing business. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the company’s finance function, working closely with a small team in both the UK and Luxembourg to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and effective financial planning.
Location: London, UK
Employment: Part-time, hybrid role (up to 2 days per month) with scope to expand
Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including bookkeeping, cash flow management, issuing invoices and reconciliations
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and performance analysis for internal stakeholders
- Regulatory Reporting: Support the Head of Compliance with FCA Regdata returns
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring actual performance against targets
- Compliance & Controls: Ensure compliance with all relevant tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements; manage external audits
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement efficient financial systems, processes, and controls
- Advisory: Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making by the leadership team
- Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and other financial partners
Qualifications:
- Education: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, preferably within financial services, venture capital, or a high-growth business
- Skills: Strong financial reporting and analytical skills; proficient in accounting software such as Xero and Microsoft Office (especially Excel); excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities; strong communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
