Volunteer Mental Health Facilitators to support Black women\'s mental health | Thelma Matilda Alves Foundation


This flexible voluntary role seeks Black women studying or working in mental health to co-create and facilitate sessions on Black women’s mental health and African/Caribbean wellbeing models for individuals, groups, and organisations.



What difference will you make?


This volunteer role will help expand access to safe, culturally relevant spaces where Black women can explore and strengthen their mental health and wellbeing. By co-creating and facilitating sessions, volunteers will play a key role in raising awareness, amplifying African and Caribbean wellbeing models, and ensuring that Black women feel seen, supported, and empowered in their wellbeing journeys.



What are we looking for?



  • Qualified in mental health-related degree (i.e. clinical psychology, counselling, psychiatry, etc)

  • Passionate and interested in black mental health advocacy

  • Experience in offering counselling, wellness coaching, therapy, and/or other mental health work

  • Some experience in facilitating group sessions or workshops

  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of how race and gender affect mental health issues

  • Confident in leading group sessions on mental health-related topics

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team



What will you be doing?



  • Design and co-create sessions and seminars around themes concerning black women\'s mental health and wellbeing

  • Facilitate in-person group sessions for a maximum of 30 participants

  • Participate in workshops designed to increase awareness of African/Caribbean wellbeing models and the issues surrounding black women’s mental health

  • Engage with all the black women who attend our sessions ensuring that the purpose is highlighted and fulfilled

  • Consult on resources for black women about their mental health and wellbeing

  • Other assigned duties
