We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Street Lighting Engineer to join our Highways team. In this key role, you will lead the design and implementation of new street lighting schemes while managing the borough’s existing street lighting infrastructure across the council’s highway network.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and deliver new lighting schemes, including electrical layout and column positioning, ensuring that lighting standards are met.
  • Lead on periodic electrical and structural testing and ensuring street lighting repairs that are issued to Merton’s contractors are undertaken to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Keep up to date with new and emerging technologies such as LED lanterns, Solar lanterns and the potential in utilising a central management system (CMS) which will support further energy reduction and carbon emissions, ensuring the street lighting network aligns with council set policies/targets.
  • Managing Merton’s term maintenance contractor, and other 3rd party suppliers, ensuring work is completed on time, and to budget.
  • Undertaking site surveys and feasibility studies, preparing cost estimates, agreeing specifications with developers, assessing and approving final costs.
  • Engage with Councillors, stakeholders and the community, responding to enquiries and providing clear information regarding future planned works and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records, updating the council’s asset inventory, and assessing the street lighting condition data to guide future investment and long-term planning.
  • Working in partnership to develop an integrated approach to service delivery and assist in the overall management and delivery of the street lighting term contract.

We are also a 10-minute walk from Morden Road Tram Stop and both Morden South and South Merton Railway Stations.
