About the role
We are looking for a Business Capability Lead – Engineering & Manufacturing to drive the development and execution of capabilities across the full product lifecycle. This role sits at the intersection of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Digital Systems, combining hands‑on process design with capability transformation. You will be responsible for building scalable, structured, and tool‑supported ways of working across Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering. You will play a key role in aligning people, processes, and systems with product milestones, scalability needs, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive day‑to‑day execution of capability development across Engineering & Manufacturing.
- Support to develop end‑to‑end capabilities across the product lifecycle (requirements, design, configuration/change management, verification & validation, manufacturing planning, release).
- Partner with key stakeholders across Engineering and Manufacturing to drive alignment, adoption, and successful implementation of business capabilities.
- Conduct capability mapping of current engineering and manufacturing capabilities (skills, tools, processes, infrastructure).
- Define and drive the capability development strategy aligned with business goals, product roadmap, and technology trends.
- Perform capability gap analysis and develop actionable plans to close identified gaps.
- Create and maintain a capability roadmap aligned with product maturity growth (e.g., Alpha → Beta → Production), including clear milestones, timelines, and resource needs.
- Lead capability maturity assessments against industry best practices.
- Define and execute improvement plans across design management, configuration management, verification & validation, and manufacturing planning.
- Ensure alignment with product milestones (e.g., Alpha/Beta), scalability needs, and regulatory standards (ISO, functional safety, etc.).
- Drive implementation of capability‑building initiatives (e.g., process improvements, training, knowledge sharing, tool adoption).
- Identify opportunities for technology integration to improve engineering efficiency and scalability.
- Translate business needs into system and tooling requirements and support implementation (PLM, ERP, Requirements Management, etc.).
- Define, model, and optimize engineering and manufacturing processes (as-is and to‑be).
- Establish clear process structures: inputs/outputs, roles, responsibilities, and quality gates.
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies and drive data‑driven improvements.
- Establish performance metrics (KPIs) to measure capability effectiveness and track progress.
- Identify risks related to capability development and define mitigation strategies.
- Establish governance mechanisms, including process controls and audits.
- Maintain documentation (Confluence).
- Track progress, risks, and outcomes; report to the Capability Owner with clear recommendations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement across Engineering and Manufacturing.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in business analysis, process engineering, or transformation roles in a technical environment.
- Strong understanding of engineering and manufacturing product lifecycle processes.
- Experience with systems such as PLM, ERP, and Requirements Management tools.
- Hands‑on experience with Jira and Confluence.
- Experience in process modeling (BPMN, flow diagrams).
- Strong analytical, structured thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proven ability to work cross‑functionally and drive initiatives end‑to‑end.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Teamcenter, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Experience in hardware, robotics, or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with CMMI, ASPICE, APQP or similar frameworks.
- Experience with automation or AI‑driven tools.
- Startup or fast‑scaling environment experience.
What We Offer:
- Meaningful time off to rest and recharge: 23 days of annual leave (accrued), 15 days of paid sick leave, and paid company holidays.
- Fully funded private healthcare for UK employees, with broad provider access, virtual and in‑person care, and strong mental health and serious illness support.
- Equity included–we believe builders should share in what they build.
- Pension scheme with a total 8% contribution (5% employee, 3% employer) on full earnings.
- Free daily breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks in‑office.
- Collaboration with top‑tier engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics.
- Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives.
