Hazel Wood Infant School are looking to appoint an experienced, caring, empathetic and enthusiastic 1-1 SEND Support Assistant to support a child starting in Year R with Autism Spectrum Condition and Speech, Language and Communication needs. Our goal is for the pupil to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, with training and support provided to help you succeed. If you are passionate about making a difference in children’s lives, we would love to hear from you. The post is a fixed term contract and is linked to specific pupil funding. Position starts September 2026. Interviews to be held 29th June 2026.

The role would entail:

  • Provide 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Support and encourage children’s learning and development under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo
  • Providing guidance to develop in all areas and working on the targets in their Education Health Care Plan
  • Support the team with observations and contribute to the child's learning journey
  • Encourage engagement in learning to help improve outcomes
  • Build positive, nurturing relationships to help overcome barriers to learning
  • Carry out other duties reasonably allocated within the remit of the role

The person we are looking for will:

  • Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of confidentiality
  • Have experience working with children with Special Needs
  • Be calm, patient, resilient and kind
  • Be reliable, organised and able to use initiative when appropriate
  • Be committed to working as part of a team
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of children at all times
