We are looking for a friendly, flexible, and professional Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive and welcoming team at the Fryern Federation of Infant and Junior Schools in Chandlers Ford. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children who have a range of needs, including developmental, sensory, communication, and social-emotional challenges. The successful candidate will work within a mixed Year 3/4 class, supporting children mainly 1:1 with learning and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.

As an LSA, you will work under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo to:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for children within a Year 3/4 mixed age class
  • Adapt learning activities and classroom routines to meet children’s individual needs
  • Support children with communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and transitions throughout the day
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Support children both in class and through tailored intervention sessions
  • Assist pupils with personal care, mobility, communication, and emotional regulation as needed
  • Foster positive, trusting relationships and promote independence
  • Record observations and contribute to regular feedback and progress tracking
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, specialists and families to ensure every child receives the right support
  • Support during lunchtimes as part of the wider pastoral care of the children

Experience supporting children in an educational setting is desirable, and experience working with children with autism or additional needs would be an advantage, although training will be provided for the right candidate.

  • Has a genuine interest in working with children with complex and additional needs, including autism
  • Can build positive and consistent relationships with children
  • Can stay calm and positive under pressure
  • Is flexible, patient, empathetic and reliable
  • Is a strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and maintaining confidentiality
  • Can use initiative and follow direction confidently
  • Ideally has experience working in a school or care setting
  • Holds GCSEs (Grade C/Level 4 or above) in English and Maths or equivalent qualifications
  • Is willing to undertake training in first aid and medical support if needed
