Our long serving SENDCo is planning to retire when we can secure a replacement. The Headteacher and Governing Body of Ranvilles Junior School are seeking to appoint an experienced, passionate and highly skilled SENDCo to lead and coordinate Special Educational Needs provision across our inclusive and nurturing school. We are appreciative that 31.05.26 is the last date for serving teachers to submit their resignation, hence the quick turnaround. This is a key leadership role within our Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher to ensure every child is known, valued and supported effectively to thrive. We are committed to early identification of need, high-quality provision and a graduated approach that enables all pupils to achieve their potential. This role is ideal for a SEND professional who wishes to focus on strategic leadership, coordination and impact. Applicants should hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and champion inclusive practice across the school, shaping a strong vision for SEND provision.
- Ensure all staff understand and fulfil their statutory responsibilities for pupils with SEND.
- Maintain a strategic overview of SEND provision, regularly monitoring, reviewing and improving the quality of support.
- Contribute to whole-school self‑evaluation and the School Improvement Plan, setting clear objectives for SEND and leading implementation cycles.
- Provide professional development, coaching and guidance for teachers and Teaching Assistants.
- Administer screening tools, identify appropriate interventions and evaluate their impact.
- Manage and maintain the annual cycle of EHCP reviews, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
- Liaise effectively with external agencies, including Educational Psychology, Health, CAMHS and specialist services.
- Work collaboratively with parents and carers, offering professional and pastoral support.
- Produce termly SEND reports for Governors and liaise regularly with the SEND Governor.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and local SEND developments and ensure school practice reflects current guidance.
- Lead effective Teaching Assistant deployment to support children.
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Hold QTS and have quality experience as a practitioner.
- Hold the NASENCo Award.
- Have strong knowledge of SEND legislation, guidance and best practice.
- Be committed to inclusive education and improving outcomes for all learners.
- Have experience leading and implementing whole school SEND practice.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- Be flexible, resilient and able to manage a varied workload with professionalism.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Work effectively in close partnership with parents and the community.
