Set within the majestic 42 acres of historic grounds alongside the River Thames in Fulham, London, The Hurlingham Club is seeking an experienced and passionate Gardener to join its horticultural team. Established in 1869, The Hurlingham Club is one of the world’s most prestigious private members’ clubs. Its renowned gardens, croquet and tennis lawns, and stately Georgian clubhouse provide the backdrop for exclusive sporting and social activities.
The estate features a diverse range of planting styles, including herbaceous borders, formal rose beds, seasonal bedding displays, woodland planting, mixed borders, an exotic border, a historic English garden and a two-acre lake with lakeside planting. The role
This position is suited to an experienced and enthusiastic gardener with strong horticultural knowledge and an interest in sustainable gardening practices. The successful candidate will be given responsibility for maintaining and developing a designated area of the gardens, working under the guidance of the Head Gardener and Senior Gardener. The role involves maintaining gardens to an exceptionally high standard, enhancing and developing planting schemes using sound horticultural knowledge, and contributing to a variety of garden projects both independently and as part of the wider team. The successful applicant will also be responsible for the safe operation of a range of horticultural machinery and equipment, while managing workloads effectively and balancing routine maintenance with seasonal team tasks. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, excellent time-management skills and a commitment to maintaining the Club’s high standards. They will embody the Club’s core values of excellence, responsibility and courtesy, while remaining professional, friendly and diplomatic in a busy working environment.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for horticulture, wildlife and biodiversity, together with knowledge of environmentally sustainable gardening practices. Experience operating tractors and small horticultural machinery is desirable, and a PA1/PA6 spraying certificate would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates should also demonstrate a proactive, flexible and hands-on approach to work.

Job details
- Salary: £35k per annum
- Contract: Perm, full time
- Working hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus regular weekend overtime (one in three weekend mornings).
