Landscape design practice Ann-Marie Powell Gardens (AMPG) is seeking an experienced Senior Garden Designer or Landscape Architect to join its studio in Petersfield, Hampshire. Led by Ann-Marie Powell FSGLD, the practice has spent almost 30 years delivering private residential gardens, luxury hotel and spa landscapes, historic estates, commercial projects, show gardens and international commissions. The studio is recognised for its bold, biodiverse approach to design and has received numerous industry accolades, including multiple RHS Chelsea Flower Show medals and Society of Garden and Landscape Designers awards.
The Role
This is a senior, project-leading position with responsibility for managing landscape and garden design commissions from initial client brief through concept design, technical development and construction. Working closely with Ann-Marie Powell and the wider studio team, you will lead projects while building strong client relationships and helping to maintain the high design standards for which the practice is known.
Responsibilities
- Leading projects end-to-end, from site analysis and concept development through to detailed design, specification, and on-site delivery.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, managing relationships with professionalism, warmth, and confidence.
- Producing the full range of design documentation: concept presentations, masterplans, planting plans, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Collaborating closely with Ann-Marie, the studio team, architects, contractors, heritage consultants, and specialist suppliers.
- Mentoring junior team members and contributing to the wider studio culture.
- Contributing to studio development, including design reviews and quality standards.
The candidate
Applicants should hold a degree or postgraduate qualification in Garden Design, Landscape Architecture or an equivalent discipline and have at least five years’ experience in private residential or high-end commercial practice. You will have exceptional planting knowledge, strong technical drawing skills and experience producing detailed construction documentation. Proficiency in Vectorworks is essential, alongside SketchUp, InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite. You should be organised, self-motivated and confident managing multiple projects and client relationships. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required for regular site visits. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available. Chartered status (CMLI), experience of heritage projects, knowledge of biodiversity net gain principles and experience using visualisation software such as Lumion would be advantageous.
