The BMS Controls Engineering Manager will oversee all post order engineering aspects of our Building Management Systems (BMS) projects. This role includes leading technical reviews, bid support, resource planning, timesheet management, solution development and delivery, research and development, and the improvement of solutions and new technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent project management skills, and the ability to lead a team effectively.
Technical Operations: Oversee the execution and performance of BMS projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications and customer requirements. Manage the technical team, including engineers and technicians, to ensure high-quality project delivery. Ensure compliance with state, local, federal, and legal requirements.
Solution Development: Plan and allocate resources effectively to ensure the design phase progresses smoothly and efficiently. Lead the development of the detailed design based on the initial concept and client requirements. This includes creating comprehensive drawings and specifications. Conduct thorough technical reviews to ensure the design meets all regulatory standards and client expectations. Work closely with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate all building systems into the design. Maintain detailed documentation of all design decisions, changes, and specifications to ensure transparency and compliance.
Engineering Variations Management: Evaluate change requests promptly to determine their feasibility and impact on the project timeline and budget. Implement a structured approval process for variations, involving key stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability. Clearly communicate approved changes to all relevant team members and stakeholders to ensure everyone is aligned. Develop detailed plans for implementing variations, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management. Analyse the financial impact of variations on the overall project budget and adjust forecasts accordingly. Implement measures to control costs associated with variations, ensuring they remain within acceptable limits.
Project Site Meetings and Specifications: Attend project site meetings. Understand and communicate project specifications and requirements to the offshore team (where applicable). Manage customer communications with UK&I project engineering team regarding design and revisions.
Team Leadership and Coordination: Track and coordinate BMS Controls engineering activities. Conduct weekly calls with UK&I project engineers and stakeholders to monitor progress. Review and ensure the quality of Engineering deliverables before submission. Lead and mentor a team of BMS engineers, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
Team Resource Planning and Performance Management: Plan daily, weekly, and monthly resources for Engineering team. Conduct performance reviews and support development of engineers. Demonstrate strong team leadership skills and experience in resource planning, performance tracking, and review. Collaborate with the UK&I Operations Managers for resource planning. Maintain strong knowledge of the sequence of works and workflow for BMS engineering activities.
Pre Sales Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise and consultation to the sales team and potential clients during the pre-sales phase, specifically for BMS solutions. Collaborate with the sales team to design and propose tailored BMS solutions that meet client requirements. Assist in the development of detailed technical proposals for BMS projects, including cost estimates, project timelines, and resource requirements. Conduct technical presentations and demonstrations to clients, showcasing the capabilities and benefits of proposed BMS solutions.
What we look for: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in BMS Controls engineering. Proven BMS hardware design, integration, software, and database configuration experience. Strong BMS engineering operations or management background. Knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and industry-specific regulations in BMS. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Experience with client FATs and site commissioning activities. Planning and leadership. (Preferred) Proficiency in CCT, SCT, and Workbench configuration tools. Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). (Preferred) AutoCAD, MS Visio, and MS Planner knowledge. BMS project engineering skills (planning, execution, management). Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Team leadership skills in resource planning, performance tracking, and review.
