Housekeeping Assistant in Plymouth

Plymouth Full-Time No working from home possible
T

Theatre Royal Plymouth is a registered charity, inspiring a lifetime of creativity for audiences, artists and participants throughout Plymouth and the wider region. As the principal home of performing arts in the Southwest, we engage and inspire many communities, creating memorable experiences for people from all backgrounds. TRP do this by creating and presenting a breadth of shows on a range of scales, with their extensive creative engagement programmes, by embracing the vitality of new talent and supporting emerging and established artists, and by collaborating with a range of partners to provide dynamic cultural leadership for the city of Plymouth.

We require successful candidates to be able to work flexibly to support the Theatre’s Rear of House operation (ROH) and the Front of House (FOH) opening and programme.

Working patterns will be based across a mix of mornings, afternoons and evenings. Your availability, the operational needs of the programme and the support required ROH may offer further opportunities to work more hours.

We are recruiting for two Housekeeping Assistant positions: one for 12 hours per week and one for 18 hours per week.

Please see below for more detailed rota information.

The Role

As part of the housekeeping team, you will help us provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for everyone who visits and works at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking part in deep-cleaning schedules and specialist cleaning across our auditoriums and other designated areas.
  • Supporting our rear-of-house routines and the work of visiting companies, including preparing areas ahead of get-ins and cleaning following get-outs.
  • Using cleaning equipment, products and materials correctly and safely, adapting to new procedures and equipment as required.
  • Collecting and disposing of waste in line with TRP’s recycling and environmental policies.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of key external areas that form part of the welcome and arrival experience for visitors, including the main entrance, Stage Door and emergency exits.
  • Supporting temperature monitoring, including maintaining the equipment and monitoring designated areas such as the First Aid Room and toilet facilities.
  • Helping to create a welcoming and accessible environment across our buildings, demonstrating TRP’s PPF behaviours in everything you do.
  • Reporting any defects or maintenance issues relating to the building and its facilities through the Premises Helpdesk in a timely manner.
  • Responding to enquiries about cleaning procedures and providing helpful information about TRP, including our facilities, directions, community activity and programme.
  • Taking appropriate action to resolve any issues brought to your attention and escalating these to a House Manager where necessary.
  • Working flexibly as part of the departmental rota to support the operational needs of both front-of-house and rear-of-house areas.
  • Using and maintaining any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and uniform provided.
  • Completing relevant training and following TRP’s procedures and policies relating to licensing, health and safety, risk assessments, security, first aid, food hygiene, safeguarding, fire safety and emergency procedures.

The Rota

Flexibility is important in the housekeeping team to support TRP’s varied programme and activities. You will work a mix of weekday and weekend shifts on a rota basis, including Saturdays and Sundays when the theatre is open.

Our programme can vary considerably, from days when there are no performances to busy days featuring up to six shows across the Lyric, Drum and Lab, with activity taking place between approximately 10.30am and 10.30pm.

The rear-of-house service also provides cleaning support before get-ins and following get-outs, which often take place over weekends. This, together with our performance programme, means regular weekend working will be required.

The rota will include a mixture of morning, afternoon and evening shifts. Indicative shift times are shown below and may vary depending on TRP’s programme and operational requirements.
