About the role

Liaise with the First Team Head Coach and Coaching Staff to assess the performance of the forthcoming opposition in all competitions. Assist with detailed pre, live, and post-match analysis for direct use by the First Team Head Coach and coaching staff. They will also be responsible for live match day analysis support and collaborating with all other staff to continually enhance the standards of performance analysis provision throughout the football club.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the club’s Performance Analysis department.
  • Provide video and statistical insights to coaching staff and players, as guided by the first team staff.
  • Pre-match opposition analysis and presentation.
  • Live coding on match days to support real-time feedback.
  • Post-match analysis presentations.
  • Analysis of training sessions.
  • Use Hudl Sportscode to deliver instant feedback at half-time and full-time.
  • Support opposition profiling, enhancing pre-match processes through targeted video and data analysis.
  • Deliver comprehensive post-match team analysis.
  • Manage and update video databases, including Hudl.
  • Drive the generation and maintenance of statistical data to support both team and player development.
  • Provide feedback to coaches and players on team performance and development areas.
  • Travel with the first team for home and away fixtures (overnight stays where required).
  • Collaborate with the wider analytics team to produce reviews focused on short, medium, and long-term team development.
  • Work on process automation within the analytics department.
  • Contribute to season-long statistical reporting and longitudinal analysis.
  • Undertake bespoke projects to support coaching and playing staff preparation.
  • Contribute to ongoing research that supports the implementation of best practice methodologies in performance analysis.

Qualifications

  • Maths and English GSCE Grade A-C or equivalent.
  • Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) preferably specialising in sports and/or performance analysis.

Experience

  • Elite-level experience of providing performance analysis support within a professional football club.
  • Production of pre-match opposition analysis, both video and statistical.
  • Experience in live match analysis.
  • Experience with a variety of video capture coding, telestration and presentation software (particularly Hudl SportsCode, iCoda, Studio, Keynote).
  • Post-match analysis; generation of video and statistical reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualities

  • A sound understanding of the technical and tactical aspects of football and the ability to dissect the strengths and weaknesses of an opposition or individual player.
  • An excellent understanding of performance analysis software, (Hudl SportsCode) editing and analysis techniques, and other associated 3rd party products (Microsoft Office, Keynote, Final Cut Pro, Wyscout, Instat, Scout7 isf).
  • Attention to detail and the ability to communicate using a variety of presentation skills, including creation of video presentations and specified documentation etc.
  • Excellent data visualisation skills to present complex data clearly and concisely.
  • Professional manner and the drive to produce excellence at all times.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines along with a reactive approach to the continually evolving nature of professional football.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to the management of their work.
  • Hard-working and the commitment to work unsociable hours.
  • The ability to thrive and not lose accuracy under pressure.
  • A commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Excellent communication and relationships with players and coaches.
  • IT literate (Mac preferably) but also competent in the use of other visual resources.
  • Understanding of R Studio, Python and handling StatsBomb API data.
  • Experience working with large data sets.
  • Completed any performance analysis related courses.
