At Manchester United, we believe that excellence on the pitch starts with excellence off the pitch. Our team thrives in a high-performance environment, united by a shared passion for success. We aim to elevate the standard of performance through collaboration and continuous growth, creating a space where everyone can contribute their best to our common goals.
The Role: Manchester United is on an exciting journey to become a fully data-driven club, using insights to make better decisions, support our people, and drive success on and off the pitch. To make this happen, we’re building a world-class data and technology function, backed by modern infrastructure, talented teams, and trusted data products that help everyone do their best work. As part of this journey, we are looking for a Senior Football Data Analyst who can combine structured thinking, technical rigour and domain insight to help drive high-impact decisions.
This is a role for someone who can break down complex problems, interrogate large datasets, and build clear, compelling narratives tailored to stakeholders across the club, adapting content and communication style for technical staff, coaches, and board-level decision-makers alike. It may suit experienced analysts from football, but also strategists, consultants or financial analysts with a strong interest in football and a desire to work in a fast-paced, outcome-driven sporting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structured, data-led analysis across recruitment, performance and technical football strategy.
- Translating outputs into clear, actionable insight tailored to stakeholders at all levels of the club, from coaches to the board.
- Build compelling, executive-ready reports and PowerPoint presentations that communicate both technical detail and strategic insight, tailored to stakeholders such as the board, coaching staff, and performance teams.
- Work hands-on with data in Python and SQL, building repeatable workflows for decision support.
- Design and develop intuitive visualisations that bring insights to life.
- Collaborate across the Football Data group, including scientists, engineers, and analysts, as well as with coaches, scouts and football executives.
- Help shape the club’s analytical culture by embedding rigour, clarity and pragmatism into every layer of insight.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in structured analytical roles, such as in football analysis, management consulting, investment analysis, or strategic finance.
- Excellent problem structuring and communication skills, with the ability to move from open-ended questions to focused, actionable outputs.
- Strong technical skills in Python and SQL, with experience manipulating large and complex datasets.
- A solid understanding of football, including tactical principles and contextual performance analysis, or a demonstrable interest and willingness to learn quickly.
- A sharp eye for visual communication and experience with tools like D3.js, Dash, Plotly, or similar.
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working with tracking or physical performance datasets.
- Familiarity with cloud-based analytical environments (e.g. Databricks, Azure).
- A background in decision support, commercial insight or applied statistics.
What We Offer:
- Wellness Support with access to mental health resources, digital health checks, and nutritionists through Aviva Digicare+
- Workplace Exclusive Discounts through our United Rewards platform, giving you access to exclusive deals from the club and partners
- Gym Facilities in our onsite locations and opportunities for regular social events and team-building activities
- Enhanced family Leave Benefits and an opportunity to purchase additional holiday days
- Enhanced Career Development with access to professional learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning, and internal training programs
- A Supportive Work Environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion, and individual growth
