We are looking for a First Team Scout to join the Scouting department at the club. Working in conjunction with the Head of Scouting Operations, the First Team Scoutâs remit is to have a comprehensive awareness of senior and emerging talent footballers playing within their designated region. Whilst scouts will be designated a specific region, they will be expected to work outside of their area to support the overall scouting process and be able to compare their work. Scouts are responsible for providing the club with a comprehensive awareness of all professional talent playing in their region. They should therefore have a forensic knowledge of teams, the squad depths and be comfortable being able to articulate their style of play. This knowledge is fundamental to the First Team Scoutâs primary objective of finding individuals who are capable of âplaying and winning for Rangers FCâ. The First Team Scout must be able to operate in a modern digital framework and be comfortable building a picture on a player from video before going to see them in the live setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under guidance of the Head of Scouting Operations, play an important role in the clubâs talent identification process.
- Proactively identify talent from different sources (Live / Video / Data).
- Take ownership to find, assess and recommend players to push through the process.
- Work closely with the Head of Scouting Operations in conjunction with the Head of Recruitment and Chief Scout to identify opportunities to watch and monitor talent, ensuring that the most relevant games are covered and reported on.
- Work closely with the Head of Scouting Operations on any video scouting.
- Flag opportunities for the Head of Scouting Operations to watch key targets and ensure a strong process exists for a player in the process.
- Games: You will be allocated games to cover live depending on department requirements and video both to cover games and players individually.
- Targets: Senior Players Emerging Talent Flag key players to Head of Scouting Operations.
- Maintain active âMonitorâ and âTargetâ lists for all players watched live and video.
- Data: An essential part of the role is being comfortable with both modern and traditional scouting methods.
- Eyes: Written report â digital formats.
- Video: Video report â watching via video platform such as WyScout.
- Data: Data Science â be comfortable with the concept of data and integrating it into your workflow.
- General: Be able to work proactively and reactively based on the changing landscapes and needs of the Football Club.
- Maintain excellent communication for all new intel and information generated through your network.
- Contribute to and when appropriate lead, internal and external discussion about prospective signings.
- Be active and present (physically or via conference calls) at all scouting meetings where attendance is required.
- Come to meetings fully prepared as the agenda requires.
- Provide a strong opinion about prospective targets.
- On a daily basis: Ensure all reports are up to date.
- Ensure you know who you are going to watch is available for the game to ensure your games provides value â make Head of Scouting Operations aware if player is unavailable.
- Actively work on your region to be up to date on top talents both at senior and emerging talent levels.
- Ensure as a priority that excellent communication exists with other members of the Scouting Team.
- Constructively challenge scouting methodologies.
