Blackburn Rovers FC are seeking an experienced

First Team Lead Tactical Analyst to lead and manage the club’s tactical analysis provision.

Reporting directly to the

Head of Technical Development and working closely with the First Team coaching staff and Data Science department, this is a senior role combining tactical analysis, strategic leadership, game-model development and applied research .

The Role

The Lead Tactical Analyst will provide detailed football insights aligned to Blackburn Rovers’ playing philosophy and game model, combining video, tactical observation and data to support coaching and match preparation.

Alongside hands‑on First Team delivery, the successful candidate will lead the Performance Analysis department and contribute to the continued development of analysis provision across the

First Team, U21 and Academy .

  • Tactical & Performance Analysis
  • Deliver detailed tactical insights aligned to the club’s philosophy and game model.
  • Lead pre‑match, live and post‑match analysis alongside the coaching staff.
  • Travel to all First Team fixtures and provide live match coding.
  • Film and analyse training sessions, delivering actionable feedback.
  • Combine visual and data‑driven analysis to support coaching decisions.
  • Deliver individual and group analysis sessions to players.
  • Lead and manage the club’s tactical analysis provision.
  • Help develop the Performance Analysis strategy across First Team, U21 and Academy environments.
  • Work with the Head Coach and Head of Technical Development to align analysis with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Data Scientist to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the club’s game model.
  • Develop technical and tactical databases and a library of best‑practice examples.
  • Explore emerging technologies, platforms and analytical methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement across analysis processes.
  • Contribute to the club’s research programme, working towards the publication of two tactical/performance-analysis peer‑reviewed papers per season .
  • Maintain awareness of developments within football performance analysis.
  • Department Management
  • Manage analysis equipment, data storage and departmental workflows.
  • Liaise with external providers including Hudl and Opta.
  • Oversee and support work‑placement students.
  • Maintain high professional and safeguarding standards.
  • What They’re Looking For

Applicants should have

  • Previous

Performance Analysis experience within elite senior football .

  • High‑level tactical and technical understanding of football.
  • Experience managing a performance analysis department.
  • Football coaching or senior coaching‑analysis experience.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Competency across platforms including

Hudl, Sportscode, Wyscout, Coach Paint/Piero and IMPECT .

  • Experience with wide‑angle filming and video capture systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Mac and Windows environments.
  • A relevant postgraduate degree in Sports Science, Sports Coaching or a related discipline .

UEFA A Licence or currently working towards it .

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and travel with the First Team.

A management qualification and valid UK Driving Licence are desirable.
