Bristol Bears are recruiting an Academy Performance Analyst to join their Performance Analysis department.

This is an entry-level opportunity designed for someone looking to begin their career in professional sports Performance Analysis, with primary responsibility for the Senior Academy alongside exposure to the First Team environment.

The Role

The analyst will support the U15, U16 and U18 programmes, using video and performance data to help coaches and players understand performance, track development and identify opposition trends.

The position also includes responsibility for monitoring players on loan or dual registration, while providing additional support to the Bears' senior Performance Analysis team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Performance Analysis across U15, U16 and U18 training and fixtures.
  • Produce opposition previews, team reviews and individual player analysis.
  • Film and code training sessions and create training packages.
  • Film and/or live code matchday fixtures.
  • Produce individual post‑match coding and statistical reports.
  • Support Individual Development Plan (IDP) presentations.
  • Build player performance profiles using statistical reporting.
  • Upload and organise training, match, preview and review footage.
  • Support team presentations and player‑facing content.
  • Assist with the management and development of Academy Analysis student placements.

Loan & Dual Registration Players

  • Analyse Bears players competing elsewhere through loan or dual‑registration arrangements.
  • Ensure individual footage and performance information is available to relevant coaches.
  • Maintain match footage and statistics to help track player development.

First Team

The role also provides opportunities to support the Senior Analysis Department, including:

  • Supporting filming and live coding of First Team matches.
  • Contributing to projects requested by coaches and senior analysts.

What They're Looking For

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Rugby Union and its laws.
  • Expert proficiency with Hudl Sportscode and associated Performance Analysis technology.
  • Strong knowledge of Apple hardware and software.
  • Excellent organisation, communication and teamwork.
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure.
  • Innovative approach and commitment to ongoing CPD and professional development.
  • 2–4 years' coaching and/or playing experience.
  • Understanding of rugby performance analytics.
  • Excel or R data‑analysis capability.
  • Experience with Tableau or other data‑visualisation tools.

The Opportunity

This is a particularly strong early‑career Performance Analysis position because of the breadth of applied experience available.

The successful analyst will have ownership of Academy analysis while gaining exposure to individual development, opposition analysis, live coding, player profiling, loan monitoring, student mentoring and First Team Performance Analysis.
