We are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate Primary SEMH Teacher to join a specialist provision in Leasowe supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. As a Primary SEMH Teacher, you will work with a KS2 class delivering a tailored curriculum designed to meet the diverse and complex needs of pupils within a structured and nurturing environment. This specialist school operates across three sites from KS1 to KS4, with the majority of pupils holding an EHCP.

The successful Primary SEMH Teacher will become part of a highly experienced and supportive team committed to improving outcomes for young people in specialist education.

The Role

As a Primary SEMH Teacher, you will provide engaging and differentiated learning opportunities while supporting pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support. The Primary SEMH Teacher will play a key role in creating a safe, consistent and positive classroom environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

As a Primary SEMH Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver a tailored KS2 curriculum focused on SEMH needs
  • Adapt teaching strategies and lesson plans to meet individual learning requirements
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement and behaviour management
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to encourage confidence and progress
  • Liaise with support staff, therapists, parents, carers and external agencies
  • Monitor pupil progress and implement targeted interventions where required
  • Maintain clear boundaries while providing a nurturing and supportive approach
  • Contribute to the wider wellbeing and development of pupils across the provision

About You

We are looking for a resilient, adaptable and enthusiastic Primary SEMH Teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH or SEND needs
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils and families

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working within alternative provision or specialist education settings
  • Fully inducted teacher status
  • Previous experience supporting children outside of mainstream education environments
