YOU is a registered charity that has been providing care, support and advice for over 30 years to vulnerable people, working across Hampshire, Portsmouth, Somerset, Dorset, Sussex and the Isle of Wight to give them the tools and resources they need to live independent, secure and valued lives.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified and Accredited Counsellor/Supervisor: Professional counselling and supervision qualifications; BACP membership (or equivalent); minimum three years' counselling experience with 450+ supervised hours and at least two years' clinical supervision experience.
- Relevant sector experience: background in counselling services (paid or voluntary), including work with rape crisis/sexual assault services and strong knowledge of safeguarding, diversity, inclusion, and the BACP Ethical Framework.
- Team leadership and service development: experience managing front-line teams, building partner relationships, planning services, and monitoring outcomes to ensure high-quality delivery.
- Crisis management and client-focused practice: able to respond calmly to crises, manage a caseload effectively, and work flexibly (including evenings/weekends and across various locations).
- Strong administrative and IT skills: proficient in Word, Excel, report writing, email communication, and maintaining organised, accurate records.
The Role:
The YOU Clinical Lead is responsible for the clinical activities of all Counselling and Therapeutic teams across YOU ensuring innovative and ethical practice. The post holder will lead on clinical team meetings/training, carry out clinical supervision with counsellors and work with the Service Manager to ensure a cohesive offer. You will develop a range of evidence-based therapeutic groups, workshops and retreats, writing a comprehensive training package, and lead on the delivery of training to counsellors and peers to facilitate these. As the Clinical Lead you are responsible for the quality of therapeutic interventions, in line with BACP and NICE guidelines, and will have extensive counselling experience, hold a caseload and be an experienced clinical supervisor.
About You:
- I promote, share and ensure compliance across YOU Counselling in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and NICE guidelines.
- I am responsible for ensuring that YOU is, and remains an organisational member of BACP, completing the application and reviewing on a regular basis to ensure our membership remains current.
- I will work with the Service Manager on the development and implementation of clinical processes, making sure they are in line with YOU’s existing practice, and ensure the service works within those.
- I am responsible for the clinical development of counselling staff across all the YOU Counselling teams, ensuring their memberships of BACP are up to date and they work within our ethical framework.
- I work with the Service Manager to identify opportunities to grow the size and scope of YOU Counselling Centres.
- I am responsible for the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures, and the development of the clinical governance framework for the service, writing the framework and ensuring it is reviewed yearly.
- I work with the Service Manager and ensure all data is kept for monitoring purposes and write analytical and evaluation reports to demonstrate the excellence of all counselling services.
- I develop key partnership relationships both internally and externally.
- I ensure the Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Centre meets national standards for excellence within a rape crisis and sexual assault service and seek membership of, and national accreditation with, appropriate organisations.
- I lead, coach and train counsellors, ensuring their practice is up to date to provide an effective counselling service.
- I lead on the development of a professional learning programme, writing the programme against national best practice and ensure all counsellors receive bespoke training to support their work.
- I lead on the training of counsellors and clinical staff to enable them to deliver structured, timetabled and evidence-based therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
- I work with the Service Manager to ensure all staff and volunteers receive excellent inductions and attend ongoing professional development.
- I supervise all clinical staff.
- I work with the Service Manager to ensure the recruitment of paid and unpaid staff and volunteers.
- I hold a small client caseload and will ensure all client notes are updated to the case management system within 48 hrs of each session.
- I ensure my skills and knowledge are kept up to date to deliver a service based on core skills, knowledge and evidence-based research.
- I am trauma informed and aware of psychologically informed environments and will lead my team to offer a warm and therapeutically welcoming environment.
- I am able to travel and work across a number of locations where needed.
- I will follow all YOU safeguarding procedures and processes.
- I will work with the team on fundraising, campaigns and community awareness, working on my own initiative or with colleagues.
- I may undertake any other reasonable tasks in relation to my role to ensure delivery of an outstanding, client-led service.
