Help create a safe, welcoming place for young people to call home

YMCA Leicestershire believes everyone has strengths, talents and the potential to thrive.

We are looking for a reliable and caring Senior Housekeeper to keep our accommodation, communal areas and working spaces clean, safe and welcoming. Your work will help residents, colleagues and visitors feel comfortable, respected and valued.

You will work thoughtfully in people’s homes, protecting their privacy and dignity while encouraging pride, independence and shared responsibility for their surroundings.

The role

You will:

  • Clean communal kitchens, bathrooms, corridors, stairwells, offices and accommodation areas.
  • Vacuum carpets, mop floors, clean ovens, surfaces, walls and internal windows, and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Keep external areas clear of litter and support the cleanliness of The Y Theatre.
  • Thoroughly prepare vacant rooms, ensuring furniture, equipment and clean bedding are ready for new residents, and launder used linen.
  • Act as the main point of contact for housekeeping cover across all sites.
  • Identify and report hazards, damage, maintenance needs and safeguarding concerns.
  • Liaise with Transition Coaches when mid-occupancy cleans are needed.
  • Follow risk assessments, COSHH, infection-control and health and safety procedures.
  • Use products, equipment and energy responsibly, and request stock when needed.
  • Plan your workload, maintain simple records and complete tasks to agreed standards.

About you:

You will be warm, respectful and non-judgemental, with:

  • Experience cleaning domestic, residential, hospitality or similar shared environments.
  • An understanding of safe cleaning methods, hygiene, manual handling and the safe use and storage of cleaning products.
  • The ability to recognise and report maintenance, safety and safeguarding concerns.
  • The ability to follow written instructions and maintain straightforward records.
  • A reliable, organised and conscientious approach, with the confidence to work independently and use your initiative.
  • The flexibility to work across more than one site when providing cover.
  • A commitment to high standards, inclusion and treating others with kindness.

No formal qualification is required, but you must be willing to complete all mandatory training. An NVQ Level 1 in Cleaning and a driving licence are desirable.

What we offer:

  • A supportive, values-led culture; regular supervision and professional development
  • 6.6 weeks’ annual leave, including bank holidays (pro-rata), Birthday leave, service leave (pro-rata), company sick pay, pension and health cash plan, free on-site gym, menopause welfare leave, complimentary Y Theatre tickets and Blue Light card eligibility.
  • Appointment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, two satisfactory references and a basic DBS check.
