Retail Sales Assistant – Temporary Contract

We invite you to join The Works as a Retail Sales Assistant on a temporary contract. In this role you will inspire customers by recommending products, creating memorable experiences and representing our brand on the shop floor.

Job Overview

Your mission is to deliver exceptional service, spark conversations and help customers with their shopping missions. You will proactively approach customers, understand their needs and make helpful recommendations from our product ranges. Additionally, you will maintain the store’s cleanliness, stock levels and safety, operate tills, support deliveries and stockroom organisation, and work collaboratively to meet store targets.

Responsibilities

• Proactively approach and engage customers, starting friendly conversations and making recommendations.
• Deliver a friendly, knowledgeable, and consistently amazing customer experience.
• Stay informed about products, promotions and services to help customers make informed choices.
• Maintain excellent store standards, including merchandising, cleanliness and stock replenishment.
• Operate tills accurately and handle transactions with care.
• Support deliveries, stockroom organisation and product availability.
• Follow all operational procedures, including health and safety and loss prevention.
• Work collaboratively with your team to meet store targets and KPIs.
• Be a brand ambassador – positive, professional and passionate about the role.
• Perform active store duties such as using stairs, handling deliveries and moving stock.
• If applicable, open and close the store securely and support cash handling and store security.

Keyholder Responsibilities (If Applicable)

• Open and close the store safely and securely.
• Complete cashing‑up and other end‑of‑day procedures accurately.
• Take responsibility for smooth store operation when a manager isn’t present.
• Support colleagues and respond to customer or operational issues.
• Follow store security, health and safety, and loss‑prevention procedures.

• Reliable, punctual and able to work a variety of shifts.
• Comfortable learning to use tills and handle transactions accurately.

• Previous experience in retail, customer service or hospitality is helpful but not essential.
