Location Hybrid: 4 days a week at our Support Centre in Coleshill, Birmingham.
Through meticulous health and safety management and effective stakeholder engagement, you will drive the successful implementation of safety initiatives across the UK and Ireland. By ensuring a safe and secure environment, you will enable our colleagues to focus on inspiring even more people to read, learn, create, and play. Your dedication, determination, and expertise will have a direct impact on our business performance, playing a vital role in delivering our strategy.
Your Mission
- Oversee health and safety processes, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.
- Manage health and safety incidents, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align health and safety objectives and drive business success.
- Develop and implement health and safety training programmes to enhance team capabilities and support safety initiatives.
- Prepare and present health and safety reports, providing regular updates and insights to senior leadership.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the health and safety function.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Work closely with the Health and Safety Manager, to support ongoing projects within the People team.
- Communicate effectively with employees, regarding health and safety queries and processes.

- Proven experience in health and safety management, ideally within a retail or similar industry.
- Strong skills in conducting risk assessments and implementing mitigation measures.
- Experience in managing health and safety incidents and ensuring timely resolution.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Excellent analytical skills to support decision-making and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Strong communication skills, including presenting to and influencing senior leadership.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with various departments and stakeholders.
