In the heart of the community, there are people facing some of life’s toughest moments — struggling to keep up with energy bills, unsure where to turn, and desperately needing someone who will listen. Someone patient. Someone encouraging. Someone who believes change is possible, even when people can’t see it for themselves. That “someone” might just be you.

As a Mentor (Advocacy), you’ll step into people’s lives at a pivotal moment. You’ll meet them face to face in their homes, in community spaces, or as a voice of reassurance over the phone. Your mission is to help them regain control, understand their options, and take meaningful steps toward a more stable future.

Every day, you’ll build trust, provide impartial guidance, and support customers through crisis — including issuing and monitoring essential crisis fund payments. You’ll become a steady, reliable presence who helps people uncover their own strength and direction. You’ll work one‑to‑one with customers, tailoring advice and interventions to their specific challenges and you’ll forge professional relationships with energy suppliers and stakeholders, ensuring your customers are heard and supported. You’ll help individuals navigate their way through financial hardship, energy concerns, and personal barriers — empowering them to find lasting solutions.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who’s worked in a mentoring, support or advocacy role — someone who genuinely cares about people and knows how to help them move forward. You will be organised and resilient with the ability to guide people through difficult conversations. It is essential you are a strong communicator, both in writing and face to face, be detail‑focused with a problem‑solving mindset. To thrive in this role you will be engaging, encouraging and able to build rapport quickly.

As this is a face‑to‑face role you will be living in or around Preston with knowledge of the local area, be able to work out in the community and be a driver with access to your own car. A requirement for this role is to complete the City & Guilds Level 3 in Energy Advice, you must be ready to complete this.

If you enjoy finding innovative ways to connect with customers and guide them toward informed decisions, you’ll feel right at home here.
