We are looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals to join our governing body and help shape the future of our vibrant secondary school. This is a perfect role for someone new to governance – we actively welcome first‑time governors and provide all the support you need to get started confidently.
Why Our School Stands Out
- Outstanding Music & Drama Department – renowned for exceptional performances and creativity that inspires students every day.
- Best-in-the-country subject leadership in both Music and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) – you’ll help support teaching teams that set national standards.
- A Planetarium on site – a unique, state‑of‑the‑art facility that brings space and science to life for our students.
- Fantastic sports facilities – supporting a thriving sporting culture and healthy, active young people.
You would be joining a great group of governors, with a passion for our school, who have three main roles:
- Governors ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. The governing body helps set long‑term plans for the school and decide where improvements are needed.
- Governors hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and the effective and efficient performance management of staff. The governing body looks at the quality of education being offered and ensures the head is doing everything possible to improve results.
- Governors oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent. Governors examine budgets and spending proposals to monitor whether the school is getting value for money and ensure the money is spent in the right areas.
This role may be particularly of interest if you have skills in finance/accounting, human resources, data or education but we invite applications from anyone who is interested in helping the school be the best it can be and improving the life chances of young people. Full training is available and governors are encouraged to attend regular training sessions, either in person or online.
We are looking for someone who can attend approximately four full governing body meetings per year and around four committee meetings per year. Meetings are held in school, from around 6pm to 8pm. Governors also spend time in school during the day (around two visits per year). You must be 18 or over to apply and all governors must have enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
