Location: Gatwick / Hybrid

Do you have a passion for writing and want to pursue a career in journalism? Do you have a keen interest in the world of food and drink, and love visiting new restaurants?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Reporter to join our Restaurant publication. The Reporter will deliver daily news, respond to press releases and seek out exclusive stories to help build and engage our readership of restaurant owners, chefs, investors, buyers, senior managers and suppliers, from quick service restaurants, street food, and multi-site casual dining brands to fine dining restaurants.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Pursuing stories to help find the most compelling news and features
  • Writing snappy news articles to crafting in-depth features and developing your writing skills and building a portfolio of published work
  • Interviewing industry figures, restaurateurs, and experts, and learning how to ask the right questions and get to the heart of a story
  • Attending industry events and visiting restaurants to network and report on the action
  • Helping curate content and publishing the daily newsletter
  • Using social media to share and promote content
  • Writing features, analysis or other long form content when the subject or situation requires
  • Preparing content for other hospitality titles when the subject or situation requires
  • Attending some of the Restaurant face-to-face events and helping to judge for awards

Requirements

What you’ll need:

  • Qualification in journalism or degree-level education in English, communications or a relevant field (or equivalent)
  • Passionate writer with a nose for a good story, and a desire to learn and improve journalistic skills
  • Ability to write both news stories and longer features to a high standard
  • A love of food and drink and enjoyment in visiting new restaurants and trying new food
  • Fantastic organisation skills with great attention to detail and the ability to plan out workload in advance, be realistic about abilities and deliver on deadline
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work in a team collaboratively, and the confidence to speak and network with stakeholders in the hospitality industry
  • A curious mind with a proactive approach to ask questions and follow leads
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of social media and digital content platform is desirable
  • Flexibility in working hours and a willingness to travel to cover stories, visit restaurants, and attend meetings and events in the UK
