Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there; we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

About the Service:

The Telecare Officer (OT) role sits within the Adult Social Care division, specifically within the Occupational Therapy and Sensory service. We are a forward-thinking and innovative service committed to enabling independence and supporting residents to live safely in their own homes. We are currently focused on integrating TeleCare assessments and interventions seamlessly into Hackney’s wider social care services. By joining our team, you will play a crucial role in our mission to provide high-quality, safe, and effective care, utilising your clinical expertise to find creative, person-centered solutions for our residents.

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Developing the TeleCare service: Designing and delivering training interventions for staff and carers, and ensuring practitioners understand the role of assistive technology to support health prevention and personalization.
  • Improving the quality of assessments: Reviewing complex requisition requests, providing clinical guidance to practitioners, and implementing activities to enhance assessment quality.
  • Supporting emergency hospital discharge: Facilitating safe hospital discharges by coordinating the installation of essential TeleCare equipment at short notice.
  • Performance and monitoring: Monitoring service performance against benchmarks, managing data accurately on internal systems (e.g., Mosaic, ELMS2), and reporting progress to senior managers.
  • Supervision: Providing effective supervision to the Telecare Co-ordinator.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Qualifications: A UK state-registered degree in Occupational Therapy and a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau assessment.
  • Technical Experience: Significant experience in carrying out effective OT assessments for disabled people, developing/running TeleCare services, and installing basic TeleCare equipment.
  • Skills: Strong ability to plan and deliver effective training, facilitated sessions, and small group events. Ability to create work plans, supervise staff, and manage performance.
  • Knowledge: Expert knowledge of the aims of TeleCare, assistive technology, the social model of disability, and relevant legislation such as The Care Act 2014.
  • Communication & Effectiveness: Excellent communication skills, the ability to work under your own initiative, and the ability to prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • IT Proficiency: Working knowledge of typical IT tools including database, word processing, and email, and information management systems.

As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation. We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

Closing date for applications: 30 August. Interview date: TBC.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.
