Whisper produces the world’s biggest sport, unscripted and branded entertainment – Formula One, UEFA, the Paralympics – for broadcasters across the UK and beyond. 270+ of us, one BAFTA, an International EMMY nomination. We’re hiring a Technical Assistant for Whisper Cymru, our production centre in Cardiff. You’ll support the post-production operations of our edit facilities alongside the Head of Post-Production in Kew and assist the Head of Technical Operations with the day-to-day running of the production centre. This role keeps media and data flowing cleanly through the facility – the engine room of everything we make. It also opens up the whole Whisper ecosystem to learn from, with in-person and online training built into the job so you develop new skills as you go. You’re proactive, highly organised, detail-obsessed and technically curious. You want to learn the foundations of a fast-paced post-production environment, and you don’t let things slip.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Provide first-line technical support across all post-production hardware and software.
  • Carry out basic maintenance and troubleshooting on edit workstations (Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve) and peripheral equipment.
  • Run secure data backups and transfers to protocol – protecting the integrity and redundancy of every project’s media across LTO, NAS and cloud.
  • Ingest, media-manage, sync and prep rushes.
  • Obtain, ingest, transcode and convert all forms of media files for edit.
  • Keep media management accurate and detailed to the highest standard.
  • Stay across new and evolving technologies and workflows.
  • Keep the edit suites neat and tidy, every day.

Responsibilities may be amended, added to or removed to reflect the changing needs of the production or the organisation.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 2 years + experience in a similar post-production edit support role is essential.
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Confident on both Mac and Windows.
  • Solid understanding of video files, codecs and their application.
  • Familiarity with post-production workflows and technical infrastructure.
  • Basic knowledge of data storage systems (SAN/NAS/RAID) and backup procedures (e.g. LTO).
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality-control skills.
  • Confident people and communication skills, and a problem-solving instinct.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of new industry technologies.

A BONUS, NOT A DEAL-BREAKER

  • Practical experience or understanding of media quality control.
  • Basic knowledge of EVS and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge of live broadcast systems and workflows.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking.
