Whisper is a leading global production company, specialising in sports, unscripted, digital and branded entertainment. Our diverse team of over 285 international employees produce top-level sports such as Formula One, UEFA and The Paralympics, as well as branded content, prime time documentaries, social media content and entertainment quiz shows for a raft of partners. Whisper’s creativity and storytelling are BAFTA-winning and Emmy International-nominated. It is also a Sunday Times Best Places to Work.

We are seeking a YouTube Channel Manager to work alongside Whisper’s Social Lead and Digital Production team to help supercharge the growth and revenue generation of a major client’s YouTube channel. You will be tasked with taking ownership of a major sporting organisation’s YouTube channel, setting the content schedule and working with all parts of the content production ecosystem to ensure timely publication and optimisation across thumbnails, titles, SEO and more. A knowledge of rugby union and what makes great YouTube content within the sport is highly preferable.

You will have first-rate people skills and the ability to operate in a team and individually, as well as experience working directly with clients. You will have a deep understanding of best practices for YouTube content, and a confidence to influence production decisions based on that understanding.

Whisper is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, communities, and lived experiences. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

What we’re looking for:

  • Individuals with experience managing high-profile YouTube channels
  • A proven track record of driving revenue through the platform’s monetisation features
  • Intimate knowledge of what makes good YouTube content – from thumbnails, to titles, to hooks to edit pacing – and an ability to brief this into producers & graphic designers
  • A fearless creative who wants to join an operation with a “challenger brand” mentality
  • A deep knowledge of YouTube studio and Google Adsense
  • Someone who lives and breathes YouTube, with a deep knowledge of platform trends and relevant content types
  • An interest in rugby union is highly preferable.

Your Mission:

  • Own the YouTube channel strategy across a full season, ensuring a consistent publication schedule
  • Monitor & analyse content performance using YouTube analytics and use these insights to drive content production in the right direction.
  • Set the publication schedule across a full mix of content – archive compilations, highlights, original programming and live blocks – and drive the content production teams to deliver this
  • Manage the community: from the Posts tab, to diving into comments under videos
  • Brief in bespoke thumbnails to graphic designers, and use Photoshop templates to deliver high-frequency thumbnails
  • Be creative: contribute ideas across all areas of the content mix
  • Work with the social media producers to ensure consistent publication of YouTube Shorts

Please note that responsibilities may be amended, added to, or removed to reflect the changing needs of the production or organisation.

The Skills You Bring:

  • High-level project management skills, planning a content calendar and delivering on it.
  • The know-how to make content that provokes strong reactions in an audience.
  • You know the difference between ‘good enough’ and ‘industry-leading’.
  • A basic knowledge of Photoshop and the ability to update thumbnail templates is desirable
  • You have worked many times with sports organisations and know the importance of building relationships with clubs, players and broadcasters.
  • You are a brilliant communicator who can show off your vision internally but also to a client.
  • A passion for digital and social video.
  • You are constantly looking for new inspiration and comparing yourself with the rest of the industry.
  • You agree that if we stand still, we go backwards.

If you want to manage a channel that changes the whole perception of a sport, we want to hear from you.
