A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JUNIOR SOUS CHEF AT THE WESTIN LONDON CITY
Reporting to the Head Chef, you can expect your working day to include the following:
- Assisting the Head Chef in managing the daily kitchen operations
- Supervising and coordinating all activities of the kitchen team, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to recipes and standards
- Overseeing food preparation, cooking and presentation to maintain the highest quality standards
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety and hygiene regulations
- Collaborating with the Head Chef in creating and updating menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and culinary trends
- Developing and testing new recipes, ensuring they meet the hotel's standards for taste, presentation and cost
- Providing input on menu pricing and portion control
- Training, mentoring and motivating kitchen team members, fostering a positive and professional work environment
- Conducting performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback
- Assisting in recruiting and onboarding new team members
- Assisting in budgeting and controlling food costs
- Overseeing ordering of supplies
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To succeed in the role of Junior Sous Chef, you will need the following qualities and skills:
- Proven experience as a Senior Chef de Partie in a luxury hotel or fine dining establishment
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team
- Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients and kitchen equipment
- Exceptional organisational and time‑management abilities
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and kitchen management software
- Food Safety and Hygiene certification is preferred
