A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JUNIOR SOUS CHEF AT THE WESTIN LONDON CITY

Reporting to the Head Chef, you can expect your working day to include the following:

  • Assisting the Head Chef in managing the daily kitchen operations
  • Supervising and coordinating all activities of the kitchen team, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to recipes and standards
  • Overseeing food preparation, cooking and presentation to maintain the highest quality standards
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety and hygiene regulations
  • Collaborating with the Head Chef in creating and updating menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and culinary trends
  • Developing and testing new recipes, ensuring they meet the hotel's standards for taste, presentation and cost
  • Providing input on menu pricing and portion control
  • Training, mentoring and motivating kitchen team members, fostering a positive and professional work environment
  • Conducting performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback
  • Assisting in recruiting and onboarding new team members
  • Assisting in budgeting and controlling food costs
  • Overseeing ordering of supplies

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

To succeed in the role of Junior Sous Chef, you will need the following qualities and skills:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Chef de Partie in a luxury hotel or fine dining establishment
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional training
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team
  • Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients and kitchen equipment
  • Exceptional organisational and time‑management abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and kitchen management software
  • Food Safety and Hygiene certification is preferred
