About the Role
We are seeking a Project Design Engineer to join our team at The West Group Ltd. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across all projects, from concept through to production. You will be responsible for design, drafting, prototyping, and project management, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, budget constraints, and timelines—all while maintaining exceptional product quality.
Reporting to the Technical Programme Manager, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Quality, and Sales to deliver innovative solutions and support the wider business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead customer projects from concept to delivery with a focus on quality, timeliness, and profitability.
- Plan and execute engineering project programmes in line with NPD procedures.
- Prepare and submit customer quotations and presentations.
- Control and report WIP project stock and procurement using SAP.
Engineering & Design
- Design, research, and develop new products to enhance our portfolio.
- Create 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks.
- Manufacture, assemble, and test prototypes.
- Specify and document testing procedures and results.
- Design safe tooling for production and RSI processes.
General Duties
- Perform quality inspections on all product as required
- Display company values and behaviours at all times
- Prepare and give customer presentations when required
- Attend and support exhibitions
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven project management experience in an engineering environment.
- Strong hands-on engineering skills; apprentice served or degree qualified.
- Proficient in CAD/SolidWorks and familiar with standards such as BS4500, BS8888, ISO9001, ISO13485.
- Practical knowledge of pneumatic equipment and application engineering.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Computer literate with good English and Mathematics.
