Make your impact
The Insurance & Risk Manager plays a central role in protecting and enabling Weir’s global business. Working closely with the Group Head of Risk & Insurance, the role will lead the management and continued development of the Group’s multinational insurance programmes, providing specialist advice on insurable risk, coverage, claims, contractual risk and risk mitigation. Operating across a geographically diverse international group, the role will work with senior leaders and business partners to ensure that insurance arrangements remain compliant, commercially effective and aligned with the Group’s evolving risk profile and strategic priorities. The role provides significant scope to influence, challenge and continuously improve the Group’s approach to insurance and risk transfer, bringing technical expertise, commercial judgement and external market insight to identify opportunities to strengthen protection, improve resilience and optimise the Group’s total cost of risk. The role will also develop and maintain strong relationships with the London insurance market, brokers, insurers and other specialist service providers.
What you’ll do
- Global Insurance Programme Management and Development: Lead the management, continued development and delivery of the Group’s multinational insurance programmes, ensuring the overall structure, coverage, limits and risk-retention arrangements remain appropriate to Weir’s evolving risk profile, business activities and strategic priorities. Lead the annual renewal process, including exposure analysis, underwriting submissions, market engagement and the evaluation and negotiation of programme terms.
- Multinational Programme Coordination & Compliance: Lead the effective implementation and coordination of the Group’s multinational insurance arrangements, working with brokers, insurers and businesses to ensure appropriate local coverage and compliance with relevant insurance and regulatory requirements across the territories in which Weir operates. Oversee local policy coordination, premium allocation and programme documentation, maintaining appropriate guidance and information for the business.
- Insurance Advisory, Contractual Risk & Business Support: Provide authoritative technical insurance and risk-transfer advice across the Group, including policy interpretation, coverage analysis and contractual risk allocation. Support the business on material customer and supplier contracts, projects, tenders, acquisitions and disposals, new territories and other strategic or commercial activities, helping balance commercial opportunity with appropriate risk protection.
- Claims, Loss Prevention and Risk Improvement: Lead and coordinate significant and complex insurance claims, providing advice on coverage, notification and claims strategy and working with the business, brokers, insurers, loss adjusters and professional advisers to achieve appropriate outcomes and maximise recoveries. Lead the Group’s property loss-control and risk‑engineering activities, using claims experience and risk insight to identify and drive proportionate improvements in loss prevention and resilience.
- Market Relationships, Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain strong relationships across the London and international insurance markets and actively manage the performance of brokers, insurers and other specialist service providers. Apply technical expertise, commercial judgement and external market insight to challenge existing approaches, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and influence the continued development of Weir’s insurance and risk-financing strategy, including consideration of alternative risk-financing solutions.
- Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.
What you’ll bring
- Corporate Insurance Expertise: Strong technical insurance knowledge, gained within a large multinational organisation, insurance broker or insurer, with demonstrable experience of managing or supporting complex multinational insurance programmes.
- London Market Experience: Strong understanding of the London and international insurance markets, with experience of working effectively with brokers, insurers and other specialist advisers through renewal, placement and claims activity.
- Broad Insurance Experience: Strong technical insurance knowledge across a broad range of classes, ideally including Property & Business Interruption, Casualty, Marine Cargo and Financial Lines, together with the ability to interpret policy wordings and provide practical coverage advice.
- Qualifications & Business Partnering: Relevant professional insurance qualification, ideally ACII or equivalent, alongside the confidence and communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organisational levels. Risk management, contractual/commercial or M&A experience would be advantageous.
