The Recipe (About the Role)

As Engineering Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in guiding all engineering activity within a manufacturing site, ensuring equipment and facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently every day. You'll guide a team of lead engineers and multi-skilled engineers, creating an environment where high-quality maintenance, rapid reaction, and forward-thinking asset care are the norm. This is a role that blends strategic thinking with hands-on guidance. You'll balance day-to-day performance with long-term improvement, embedding strong engineering standards, statutory compliance, and safe systems of work across the site. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you'll guide production performance, optimise resources, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement, strengthening both asset reliability and engineering capability for the future.

  • Manage and develop the factory engineering team, ensuring the right skills, structure, and capability to guide safe and reliable site operations.
  • Own and ensure compliance with all engineering standards, statutory requirements, and safe systems of work, including PUWER, PSSR, LEV, LOLER, electrical standards and Permit to Work processes.
  • Ensure effective prioritisation, escalation, and performance of breakdown outcome.
  • Ensure high-quality data within the CMMS, promoting accuracy in job logging, scheduling, maintenance history, and work closure for the area.
  • Accountable for the delivery of continuous improvement in maintenance methods, reliability strategies, asset performance, and engineering processes through structured problem-solving and reliability-focused initiatives.
  • Guide capital project delivery, ensuring new equipment is commissioned safely, correctly, and aligned to long-term asset care standards, ensuring that the Early Equipment Management process is executed.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on key engineering KPIs including asset uptime, breakdown performance, OEE, maintenance compliance, cost efficiency, and resource utilisation.
  • Build strong relationships with production, C&C, site services, central engineering, quality, and EHS teams to ensure engineering guides the achievement of factory performance targets.
  • Accountable for all engineering activities in your area comply with Weetabix standards, safe systems of work, and legal requirements including Health & Safety, Food Safety, and statutory engineering obligations.
  • Accountable for the delivery of the factory and engineering KPIs.
  • Undertake any other duties, consistent with the level of the role, skills and experience, as may be reasonably required to guide the business.

The Ingredients (What we need from you)

Key Know How:

  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing engineering, maintenance delivery, and asset care within a fast-paced production environment. Demonstrates a solid knowledge of equipment performance, failure modes, and maintenance strategies, with the ability to ensure effective execution of planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of engineering best practice, maintenance methodologies, and problem-solving tools (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, condition monitoring techniques), with the ability to embed these consistently across the site engineering team.
  • Good awareness of engineering compliance requirements and statutory standards (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, LEV, electrical safety), ensuring that safe systems of work and legal obligations are consistently applied within day-to-day operations.

Business Expertise

  • Awareness of manufacturing operations and the relationship between engineering performance and key business outcomes, including safety, quality, cost, service, and OEE.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate operational priorities and production demands into effective engineering plans, ensuring optimal deployment of resources, timely action to issues, and delivery of performance targets.
  • Experience contributing to budgeting, cost control, and resource planning, with the ability to balance short-term operational needs with longer-term asset care and improvement priorities.

Leadership & Professional Experience

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams within a manufacturing environment, with clear accountability for performance, safety, and delivery. Demonstrates the ability to manage, coach, and develop multi-skilled teams, including Lead Engineers, shift engineers, and apprentices.
  • Strong track record of building team capability, driving engagement, and embedding high standards of performance, behaviour, and accountability across shift-based or multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experienced in guiding through operational pressure, making effective decisions in real-time, and maintaining focus on both immediate delivery and continuous improvement.
