As our Solutions Ecologist you are the technical backbone of our Commercial team. In a high-growth environment, our Sales team works hard to build commercial relationships; your job is to support those relationships to become meaningful projects by providing the scientific authority and technical clarity required to cross the finish line. Sitting within the Commercial Team, you are the technical touch point for our team of Sales People. You aren't just a subject matter expert; you are a strategic unblocker. You will be the expert in the room for client meetings, contribute to our most complex technical proposals, and the mentor who ensures our sales force speaks the language of ecology with total confidence.

You will manage the technical pipeline across three key pillars:

  • Technical Sales Strategy (60%)
    • Be the Expert in the Room: Join client discovery calls to decode their pain points and translate our suite of nature monitoring tools—from eDNA to bioacoustics—into a language that resonates with stakeholders.
    • Design Winning Proposals: Review and refine commercial bids to ensure our methodologies are bulletproof and perfectly aligned with our product capabilities.
    • Define the Scope: Collaborate with the Sales team to map out complex bids, ensuring we promise exactly what our Operations and Ecology teams can deliver.
    • Enable the Team: Keep the Sales department sharp by transferring the latest updates from our ecology roadmap into their toolkit.
  • Bespoke Analysis & Expert Delivery (20%)
    • Find the "So What?": For our most strategic projects, you will take standardized data and provide the narrative, interpreting results within the client’s specific ecosystem or regulatory framework.
    • High-Level Reporting: Author technical summaries for key accounts that require a deeper ecological story than our automated systems provide.
    • Consultative Design: Act as a billable expert for clients needing custom survey designs or bespoke biodiversity monitoring frameworks.
  • Internal Liaison & Quality (20%)
    • Voice of the Client: Feed market trends and client frustrations back to the Ecology team to help inform a market-leading product roadmap.
    • Technical Excellence: Work with cross-team colleagues to ensure all commercially-facing content is accurate and reflects global best practices.

How Your Success Will Be Measured

  • Commercial Velocity: Booking Impact: Your contribution to closing high-value opportunities and large-scale bids.
  • Client Confidence: Maintaining an 80/20 split between client-facing activity and internal projects.
  • Billable Excellence: Meeting targets for bespoke analysis and expert consultation hours.
  • Proposal Quality: Ensuring every offering maximises value for both the client and the natural world.

About you

  • Ecological Foundations: A strong background in Ecology (MSc/PhD preferred) with multiple years of experience in a client-centric, commercial role. Experience in species and habitat monitoring using multiple approaches such as visual observations, sensors, eDNA samples, remote sensing.
  • Data Literacy: Proficiency in interpreting ecological data (if you know R or Python, that’s a huge plus).
  • The "Multiplier" Mindset: You enjoy empowering others. You would rather build a tool that helps enable the whole team to sell better than do the selling yourself.
  • Pragmatic Excellence: The ability to find the "middle ground" where scientific integrity meets commercial reality.
  • Communication Mastery: You can explain eDNA or bioacoustics to a Procurement Lead who has no science background in under three minutes.
  • Regulatory Fluency: Deep knowledge of TNFD, BNG, or CSRD.

What's in it for you

  • Be part of a passionate, driven team, working to drive real, tangible & measurable impacts on nature.
  • Ample opportunity for professional growth, learning, and development, in a fast-moving and dynamic scale-up.
  • Flexible work arrangements - core hours between 10am-4pm to help balance work and life. Many of our team are working parents and flex their hours around the school run!
  • Hybrid working - 2-3 days in our offices in London and/or Guildford, depending on location.
  • 25 days annual leave.
  • Surrey Sports Park membership discount & gym classes and facilities in our London Office.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Life Assurance (4x basic annual salary), including 24/7 virtual GP access, mental health support, nutrition consultations, fitness programmes, and health checks for you and your immediate family.
  • £250 budget to spend on our learning platform, Learnerbly.
  • Enhanced Family Friendly Policy.
  • Salary Sacrifice Pension Scheme, prioritising sustainability.
  • Bi-yearly onsites where the whole NatureMetrics team comes together in person to share updates, connect & have fun.
