We are looking for a Lighting Supervisor who reflects the collaborative mindset, creative talent and passion for great filmmaking that defines ILM. The Lighting Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Lighting TDs to create, direct and reflect lighting and shadows that meet the creative direction and vision of the project. This role has shared accountability for the management and deliverables of the Lighting department utilising research, development, and implementation of new techniques when necessary.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with show production(s) for show and pipeline set up, milestone & targets
- Support the VFX supervisor and CG supervisor in the creative direction of the project
- Provide technical support for your team, communicating any software issues to developers
- Work with your global counterparts to drive the development of tools, standards and processes
- Participate as a supervising team member in determining various design solutions, efficiency improvements and provide artistic feedback on a shot and sequence level to other team members of the production
- Attend all relevant meetings to promote effective communication throughout the production team
- Maintain a high level of proficiency in current tools and methodologies
- Track lighting continuity within sequences
- Coach and guide the team of Lighting TDs to execute quality performance for the project
- Actively participate in the recruiting and staffing of the lighting team - assesses the work of prospective candidates for the hiring process
What We’re Looking For:
- Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes
- Lighting Lead experience across several high-end VFX projects, managing the full lifecycle from start to delivery
- Extensive management experience of large teams (10+ team members) with proven interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
- Demonstrable experience of mentoring and developing artists
- Thinks analytically and innovatively
- In-depth knowledge of Linux, Python and shell scripting required
- Relevant knowledge of color theory, composition, lighting and aesthetics
- Strong working knowledge of various software platforms including Katana, Maya, Nuke, or any other high end CG or compositing software
- Highly proficient in technical problem solving, debugging and optimizing renders
- A self-starter with the proven ability to initiate and complete new projects
- The ability to juggle multiple projects, work with diverse personalities and work within strict deadlines
- A personable individual who can build strong relationships and inspire their team
This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
