The Wallich is a leading homelessness and rough sleeping charity in Wales. The service provides floating housing-related support with the aim of preventing homelessness, helping individuals and families sustain their accommodation, and promoting long-term independence and wellbeing. It supports people to develop the practical skills, confidence, and stability they need to live safely within their homes and communities.

Central to the service is a strong focus on early intervention—identifying housing issues before they escalate, addressing risks promptly, and increasing resilience so that people can better manage their circumstances in the future. The service works in close partnership with the Council's Parenting and Family Support Team, ensuring that families receive coordinated support around both housing needs and wider wellbeing. This includes helping families maintain a safe, stable, and child-friendly home environment, linking them to Family Centres, parenting programmes, early-years services, and, when appropriate, connecting them to the Gateway team for more intensive support.

Support includes help with tenancy sustainment, liaison with landlords, assistance with housing applications or moves, improving budgeting and income maximisation, ensuring connection to utilities, and reducing debt-related pressures. It also helps individuals and families access essential services such as healthcare, education, childcare, training, and community activities, all of which contribute to long-term housing stability. Overall, the service aims to strengthen independence, prevent crises, and reduce the risk of homelessness by providing practical, proactive, and family-centred housing support across the county.

Purpose of Role

To coordinate and provide support that enables and empowers service users to address their housing and/or personal difficulties, build their skills and confidence improving their ability to maintain their current or future accommodation.
