Role Purpose

The Lead Engineer is a key role within a Software sub‑community, providing technical leadership and guidance to engineers across all squads. The role focuses on delivering and maintaining production‑ready, secure, stable, and performant code in line with TVG Engineering standards in a DevSecOps manner. The Lead Engineer leads by example, actively participates in software design, coding, reviews, testing, and debugging, and drives continuous improvement across the sub‑community.

Scope of Role

  • Technical mentor and coach to Software Engineers, empowering them to excel in their roles and grow their skills.
  • Champions the adoption of relevant standards such as TVG's SDLC, re‑usable component development, and technical product roadmaps in collaboration with Engineering Managers and Architects.
  • Contributes to a high‑performing engineering team and a positive, inclusive culture where collaboration, open communication, and knowledge sharing are the norm.
  • Leads software technology selection for the squads they work with.
  • Serves as a technical expert and leader; task management may be required on occasion.
  • Works with peers in other sub‑communities and technology leaders to advance TVG's tech landscape, ensuring alignment with community standards and policies.

About You

  • Significant experience delivering software solutions in squads operating in a lean, agile, DevSecOps environment, in a senior or leadership role.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, frameworks, and modern software engineering tooling.
  • Experience with TypeScript, React, Nest.js, AWS is highly desirable.
  • Clear technology leadership, direction and decision‑making for a whole team.
  • Experience building, integrating, maintaining, and managing complex software architectures (both built in‑house and third‑party), ideally across multi‑cloud environments.
  • Experience designing software applications with built‑in security, reliability, scalability, high availability, and concurrency.
  • Strong collaborator, communicator, and decision maker.
  • Confident in sharing stories internally and externally to build the Very Group brand.

The process includes a short introductory call, followed by a three‑stage technical and behavioural interview series. First stage – Take‑home technical task (7 days). Second stage – Technical interview (60‑90 minutes on Teams). Third stage – Behavioural interview (60 minutes onsite).
