We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, and caring Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the clinical and administrative teams to provide high-quality nursing care and health promotion to our patient population. The role will include treatment room duties, chronic disease management, cervical cytology, immunisations, and supporting the delivery of safe and effective patient care.

Urmston Group Practice is a well-established GP practice serving approximately 13,000 patients. Our clinical team includes:

  • 4 GP Partners
  • 6 Salaried GPs
  • 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners
  • 3 Practice Nurses
  • 1 Nursing Associate
  • 1 GP Assistant

The practice works closely with the wider Primary Care Network (PCN) and local healthcare providers to deliver integrated patient care.

Job Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by the Practice Nurse may include some or all of the following:

Clinical Duties

  • Deliver evidence‑based nursing care to patients within the practice setting
  • Undertake general treatment room duties including:
    • Wound care and dressings
    • Blood pressure monitoring
    • Venepuncture
    • ECGs
    • Health checks

Chronic Disease Management

  • Support the management of patients with long‑term conditions including:
    • Diabetes
    • Asthma
    • COPD
    • Hypertension
    • Cardiovascular disease
  • Undertake annual reviews in line with practice protocols and QOF requirements

Immunisations and Screening

  • Administer routine vaccinations and immunisations in accordance with national guidance
  • Undertake cervical cytology screening
  • Promote uptake of national screening programmes

Health Promotion

  • Provide lifestyle advice and health education to patients
  • Support smoking cessation, weight management, and healthy living initiatives
  • Promote patient self‑management and preventative healthcare

Clinical Administration

  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records
  • Ensure clinical coding is completed accurately where appropriate
  • Participate in audit and quality improvement activities

Infection Prevention and Control

  • Maintain infection control standards within clinical areas
  • Ensure appropriate use, storage, and disposal of clinical equipment and waste

Team Working

  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nursing staff, administrative staff, PCN colleagues, and external healthcare professionals
  • Participate in practice meetings and training sessions
  • Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration
  • Desirable: Experience working within primary care/general practice or transferable nursing experience

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Essential: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational and IT skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
  • Desirable: Experience in chronic disease management
  • Cervical cytology qualification
  • Immunisation and vaccination training
  • Experience using EMIS Web
  • Knowledge of QOF and primary care service
