We have an exciting opportunity for an excellent researcher with a track record in biomedical sensing engineering to join us for career‑establishment research. The fellowship is aligned with the Insigneo Institute, the University of Sheffield, and the CHIMES2 network of heterogeneous chip design and has been fully funded by a philanthropic donation to the university. The successful candidate will take forward their own programme of transformative research in the engineering and applications of novel biomedical sensing technologies that are underpinned by state‑of‑the‑art electrical and electronic engineering research.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with a network of collaborators on the development and application of novel medical devices and sensing technologies across the Insigneo Institute, CHIMES2 and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, and will benefit from collaborative opportunities for clinical testing and evaluation with Insigneo partners at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Sheffield Children’s Hospitals.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Take forward a world‑class programme of self‑driven research in biomedical sensing engineering.
- Collaborate on large interdisciplinary research projects that are aligned with the Insigneo Institute and CHIMES2 network.
- Supervise PhD and undergraduate students.
- Contribute to and actively participate in ongoing international collaborations with other academic, clinical and industrial research partners.
- Contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in the Schools of MPH and EEE.
- As a member of staff, you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University’s Sustainability Strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
- Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential Qualifications
- Good Honours degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent.
- A PhD in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent.
- Biomedical sensor design and construction experience.
- Solid background in electronics and electrical engineering.
- Experience in interfacing with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Track record of publications in top Engineering and Biomedical Engineering journals.
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to develop creative approaches to problem‑solving.

- Salary: £48,822 – £58,225 pro rata (potential to rise to £65,509 with exceptional contribution).
