As Student Experience Manager, you will oversee and manage staff to deliver a high quality, inclusive and accessible learning experience for all students. You will support students, actively seeking out and responding to the student voice through committees, surveys and other channels to enhance the student journey from induction to graduation. Working collaboratively with the School Director of Education and School Manager, you will support the delivery of strategic objectives, improve the experience for students within the School, lead on external compliance requirements and drive forward student voice initiatives. You will work with the Education Manager to allocate responsibilities fairly and oversee the work of team members to ensure a joined‑up approach for students and staff. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of student‑related issues, be an experienced line manager and a strong leader able to work collaboratively across the institution to ensure student experience activities are delivered effectively and efficiently in line with University policies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the School Director of Education and School Manager to support the delivery of the School’s strategic Action Plan in relation to Student Experience.
  • Lead the Student Experience Professional Service function, including line management of staff within the Education and Student Experience team as appropriate, taking overall responsibility for activities and ensuring cover in absence.
  • Oversee and manage all School student voice activities and related processes:
    • Develop and deliver the School’s student voice strategy.
    • Manage NSS, TellUs and other evaluation mechanisms, review and interpret data and feedback to develop and implement appropriate actions and ongoing monitoring, and ensure the closure of the feedback loop.
    • Oversee the School’s Student‑Staff Committee and engage student representatives.
  • Ensure the School complies with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements whilst supporting students to successfully complete their studies; act as the Safeguarding and Prevent School Contact.
  • Oversee the delivery of all School student attendance requirements, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and the University Student Attendance Monitoring policy.
  • Manage academic complaints and appeals as well as student complaints.
  • Support student engagement and academic progression, overseeing activity and ensuring targeted action as appropriate.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of inclusive processes that support all students, including Extenuating Circumstances, Learning Support Plans, participation elements of the Access and Participation Plan and requirements of Equality legislation.
  • Lead for Fitness to Practice in the School where required.
  • Oversee all student‑facing events, materials and communications, including welcome and induction activities, ensuring alignment with the University Welcome and Induction framework and student handbooks.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of all student community building activities.
  • Actively participate in relevant committees, including the School Education Committee and other committees/groups as appropriate.
  • Support colleagues in the wider Education and Student Experience Team to ensure the School delivers its responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential requirements:

  • Educated to A Level standard with GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience in a professional or managerial role, ideally within a Higher Education or similarly complex environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to negotiate with colleagues of all levels to deliver effective outcomes.
  • High level of IT literacy, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications, and the ability to learn new software.
  • Experience of leading, reviewing, managing, and motivating a team to achieve high quality service delivery and support colleagues to reach their full potential.
  • Experience of process and policy design and improvement, e.g. developing and implementing service improvements.
  • Highly motivated and able to work and make decisions autonomously, with an understanding of when to refer more complex issues to senior colleagues.
  • Ensure tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner, prioritising effectively to manage conflicting deadlines and unscheduled tasks.
  • Excellent customer service and networking skills, demonstrating a flexible and collegiate approach to working, with high levels of discretion and confidentiality as required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve strategic aims of the School and University using creative problem‑solving, with an appreciation of longer‑term implications of actions taken.
